DO NOT JUDGE ANOTHER MANS SERVANT

Greetings dear children of God and other interested parties. Welcome to this ongoing Bible Study of the Bible Book of James. Late last week we have again been reminded about the words of our mouths. Remember the words come from our thought lives and they are what we really believe and mean. We learned not to be presumptuous before God by not including Him in our plans. Making our own plans excluding Him is evil. We were reminded that we need to find and do the will of God in all aspects of our lives. Yesterday we came face to face with considering what and who do we really trust. It is the will of God that we have abundant overflow of all things including finances but that we worship only Him. Now, let’s jump into our primary text for today.
James 5:7-9 (NIV)
7 Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.
8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.
9 Don’t grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!
James the Just like the Apostle Paul thought the Lord’s coming was very near and that was 2000 years ago. To our thinking that is a long time and far beyond anyone’s lifespan today. However, from the Lord’s prospective it is but two day. Remember Scripture tells us that with the Lord a day is as 1000 years and a 1000 years is as a day. Dear ones we are to be looking for His appearance but our focus first of all is on seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and bringing Heaven to earth. Heaven on the earth is to be exhibited in our individual lives.
We are told to be patient and stand firm. The Lord has provided us with all that we need to stand against and dominate the evil ones (demons) as well as dominate the curse. Be reminded of the following two Scriptures.
Ephesians 6:10-11 (NIV)
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Is there any power anywhere that is superior to our Lord? Does the Lord’s armor which we have been given have weaknesses? I hope you are getting these. The answer to both is a resounding NO!
Luke 10:19 (NIV)
19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
What do you think about that verse? Do you believe it? It tells us we can trample on every demonic power, and they are unable to harm us. Do you believe it or do you fear demonic powers? Many people have seen the Hollywood depictions of the devil and demons. These evil forces only have as much power and latitude in our lives as we give them. Did you get that, as we give them! This brings us to verse nine of which I am guilty and repent thereof. The word “grumble” in NIV or “grudge” in KJV means to groan, sigh or grumble from impatience concerning a brother of sister in Christ. Let’s review the following Scripture once again.
Romans 14:4 (NIV)
4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
The Lord alone knows the hearts of all persons including those who are His. We are in no position to judge our brothers and sisters in the Lord. The James 5:9 verse and the Romans 14:4 verse remind me of the beautiful following passage.
Jude 1:21-25 (KJV)
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Is this our heart or do we just say, “to hell with them”? We want mercy, what about others? We want compassion, what about for others? Are our garments spotted with the flesh? Let us focus on all humility upon “the only wise God our Saviour”.
TAKE HOME:
- Are we patient and focused upon the business of the Kingdom of God.
- Do we have unkind, unmerciful, less than compassionate thoughts and attitudes towards our brothers in Christ?
- Do we fall down before “the only wise God our Saviour,” saying “be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”
Lord willing, I will resume right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
