HOSANNA
Tuesday – August 20, 2019, Av 19, 5779

Greetings my dear friends and partners of Eastern Gate Ministries International. I do appreciate each and every one of you who follow this blog (The Three Minute Word) seeing, reading, and diligently studying it either on Facebook, your email inbox, Twitter, or LinkedIn. If you are reading this on Facebook please take just a moment and hit the “love” and “share” buttons to give us feedback as well as spread the reach of the good news of the Kingdom of God. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of John, reading it aloud.
John 12:12-16 (KJV)
12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
As you will recall we are now in the last five days of the earthly ministry of Christ Jesus. This first of the five days is what is commonly referred to as Palm Sunday or the Triumphant Entry. This is directly linked to the first Passover, this being the last Passover with a sacrifice. The first Passover and the exodus from Egypt (type of sin-bondage) is a prophetic picture of the last Passover with the Lamb of God as the sacrifice and the great exodus from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of God’s dear Son. Up until this time the sacrifice was an innocent animal most commonly a lamb, this time it is the Lamb of God. The animals of four thousand years only covered sin for a season but this precious Blood of the Lamb of God would blot sin out completely for those who would believe. Oh, what a sacrifice!
I now want to take a few moments to talk about the use of the word “Hosanna”. This word derives from the Hebrew so we will look at the first use of the word in the Hebrew which will give us some insight. Hosanna means save now, help now, or save we pray thee. It became a word of common acclamation (Ps. 118:25), and later a common form of wishing safety and prosperity, Save and prosper, O Lord according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. From Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary we find that Hosanna means to be open, wide or free, to be safe; causative to free or succor, avenging, defend, deliver (-er), help, preserve, rescue, be safe, bring (having) salvation, save (-iour), and get victory. Jesus did all of this and much more! Before we move to the first use of this word Hosanna, I want to draw our attention to the word “succor” above which means one ideally suited to come along side and provide what is needed. Notice the following two Scriptures.
Genesis 2:18 (KJV)
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
Hebrews 2:18 (KJV)
18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
Help meet in the Genesis reference means to succor and the Hebrews reference tells us the same thing. In one case the bride (Church) is providing what is needed for the bridegroom (Jesus) and in the second the bridegroom (Jesus) is providing what is needed to the bride (church). This tells us a lot about natural marriage as well, a two-way street. Jesus was just what was needed to purify His bride. Now let’s look at the first use of this word “Hosanna” in the Hebrew. It involves Moses another type and shadow of the Messiah.
Exodus 2:16-21 (KJV)
16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.
17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.
18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?
19 And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.
20 And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.
21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
The word “helped” in the seventeenth (number of victory) is the word otherwise translated as Hosanna. The priest of Midian represents the Father, Moses the Savior (Hosanna), the daughters represent the Church. The shepherds are the evil forces that try to keep us from the water, the Word of God. Thought you might find this all interesting and fascinating.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
