MY SOUL IS TROUBLED
Friday – August 30, 2019, Av 29, 5779

Greetings my dear partners and friends of this Ministry and this blog and welcome back to our Bible Study of the Book of John. If you are reading this on Facebook, please take a moment to hit the “love” and “share” buttons to provide feedback to us and to further the spread of the Truth. The featured picture today is of Donna and me on a recent trip to Archer’s on the Pier in Rockland. Excellent lazy man lobster and lobster stew! God is so good, and He is nothing but good. I will be moving forward in our Bible text today so let’s turn our attention to our Bible Study starting by reading the primary text aloud.
John 12:27-32 (KJV)
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
As we lead off in verse twenty-seven Jesus tells us that His mind, His emotions, but not His will are troubled or stirred up. Jesus is just a few days from the Cross, spiritual death with separation from the Father, physical death, decent into Hell but then glorious victory exploding from the grave and fully restored to the right hand of God the Father. His salvation is our salvation, think on that! Jesus says that in spite of how He feels this is the very hour for which He came, this is the very hour upon which all of mankind is depending.
1 John 3:8 (KJV)
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (Bold added by Dr. Wood)
Now, let’s take a look at verse twenty-eight of our text and see what wonderful Truth we can see.
John 12:28 (KJV)
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
Remember that the word glory is always referring to something tangible, something which can be appreciated by the five human senses. In a Scriptural context it is commonly referring to the manifested for all to see goodness of God. Jesus issues an imperative, a command to the Father saying “Father, glorify thy name.” It certainly does not appear that the Father is offended, and neither will He be when we do exactly the same thing by faith, in love, led of the Holy Spirit. We then hear the Father speak from Heaven and it is not to rebuke Jesus but to answer the command or decree. What is being talked about here? Whose name are we talking about? It appears to me that the name of Jesus is being talked about. It was certainly a manifested goodness of God when Jesus came into the earth. The first part of the Father’s statement “I have both glorified” is in the present, active, ongoing whereas the “will glorify” is future tense. The second part of the sentence has to do with the ongoing work of Jesus of the name after the Resurrection.
At this juncture I would like to point out an interesting detail but powerful detail about the use of the term “in the name of Jesus”. The word “in” has a meaning of acting as an instrument. According to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary the word “in” is a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality. The name Jesus acts as an instrument to cause things to happen. We use the name of Jesus like one might use a hammer to move a nail into wood or our own name to obtain money at the bank. That name spoken in faith, in love, led of the Holy Spirit activates unmeasurable Power. As we look at the text, we find the gathered people are at a loss as to what has just happened. No wonder they are not in faith, dead spiritually, and carnal at best. Jesus tells them that the voice came for their sakes not for His. The voice came that all know the devil’s free reign in the lives of people is about over. And now dear saints we have access to the fulness of His salvation, let us determine to walk in it.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
