THE PROPHETIC VOICE – PART ELEVEN
A PROPHET THEN, A PROPHET NOW, DIFFERENT?
Sunday – September 1, 2019, Elul 1, 5779

Greetings dear children of God and welcome back to this Sunday series concerning Prophets and Prophecy. Hopefully each of us will find this quite instructive and use these teachings to establish proper order and understanding in the Church concerning all that are appointed of God to the Five-Fold Ministry. There are serious consequences for not honoring those Anointed of God to lead in the congregation, the Church. Unfortunately, many Churches are seeing those consequences and are searching in vain for other solutions to the problems in their particular Church. If you are reading this on Facebook please take a moment to hit the “love” and “share” buttons to give Donna and me some feedback and to partner in this way with the dissemination of the good news.
As we start our lesson for today let us look at the man, the Prophet Elijah, on an occasion when he stood before King Ahab and prophesied:
1 Kings 17:1 (KJV)
1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
Sure enough, the rain stopped. After three years God spoke to Elijah and sent him back to Ahab the king of Israel to tell him it was about to rain (1 Kings Chapter 18). Just to be clear here, God gave Elijah the Words which were to be declared to King Ahab. The Word of God must be declared by a man into the earth realm. In the beginning God gave man all authority or dominion over all the earth. God will not override the total authority (dominion) He gave to man and the devil cannot override that authority whether it be a saint or sinner.
Genesis 1:26 (KJV)
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Ever since the creation of man, God has spoken His will to a man (person) who then declared that Word into the earth realm. This applies to every single person in Covenant with God not just those in the office of Prophet. Each of us are the Prophets of our lives and family. This may seem inefficient for God to work this way but remember God was making sons. Imagine your own childhood, what if your parents had said and done everything for you. You would be a cripple today. God is training sons to reign and rule in the earth and beyond at His direction, according to His will. We are just like Jesus (1 John 4:17) operating at our attained maturity level (Galatians 4:1) growing into His fullness (John 14:12). Once the will of God is declared (not begged for but decreed or commanded) by a man into the earth realm then God will back up His Word in Power (Holy Spirit). Consider the Prophet Micah who prophesied the birthplace of the Messiah.
Micah 5:2 (KJV)
2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
Were Elijah, Micah, and others mentioned in this series prophets? I would expect that the resounding answer back would be; “Of course Dr. Wood, this is the Bible, the Word of God.” And of course, that answer is correct as it would be if I asked about Moses, David, Daniel, Nahum or any number of others. What about people of our generation, two thousand years after Jesus, who speak saying: “Thus saith God”? You might say, well, we will have to wait and see if it comes to pass. After all they are just people and could miss it.
James 5:17-18 (KJV)
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Well, Elijah (Elias) was just like us and he didn’t miss it. To say they are human and can miss it is the voice of unbelief and dishonors the Prophet, dishonors the Anointing. The Holy Spirit will confirm to each of us instantly if the person is speaking the Truth or a lie. Really, did Daniel miss it? Are we going to just wait and see if the Words of Jesus in Matthew chapter twenty-four come to pass because He could have missed it? Of course not, we believe those Words which came from the Father through the Holy Spirit to Jesus who spoke them to His disciples and Matthew in turn recorded them for us. What about John the writer of the book of Revelation, do we believe those Words without exception or could he have missed it in whole or in part? You may be saying, really Dr. Wood you are being ridiculous this is the Word of God, it is true without exception. I would say to you that there is no difference between the Prophet of old and the Prophet of today.
Does God still speak to His people? Has the quality of the Word of God (a Word from God) become less reliable? Have the modern-day Prophets become dull of hearing? Or, perhaps there is no such thing as a modern-day Prophet? Remember the Prophets of old were not saved and were not filled with the Holy Spirit. Now the Spirit of God did come upon them (Judges 3:10, 6:34 and many other examples) but they were not in the position of a born-again believer. Consider what Jesus said to His disciples about John the Baptist.
Luke 7:28 (KJV)
28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
Jesus said there was never a greater (Old Testament) Prophet then John the Baptist. That alone is a mouthful because very few of his words are recorded. What is recorded in Scripture concerning the words of John the Baptist are exclusively about Jesus and the Kingdom of God. Jesus goes on to say that the least in the Kingdom of God (born again believer) was greater than John the Baptist. All that the Kingdom of God is, all that came of Salvation was first spoken by the Prophets of old and the freshly born-again child of God is greater than those men and women. The born-again child of God is a new and unique creature or creation, a son.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
