Greetings and praise the Lord for Wednesday (hump day). Let us now delve right back into our study of the exciting Word of God that is transforming us day by day into His glorious image and likeness. Our primary text is from the Book of Colossians.
Colossians 2:8-10 (KJV)
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
We are to develop our skill at walking in faith and by our will, by our choosing we become more and more like Him. We are not to be meandering around in a daze hanging on for dear life until we die or Jesus catches us away. We are to take the good news of the Kingdom of God and a new way of thinking to all the world. We are not only to talk about it but be a walking demonstration project. We should be able to say like Jesus said, when you have seen me you have seen the Father. You may be thinking, wait a minute, hold on brother, I can hardly make it from the bed to the breakfast table with a pure mind and you say I can be like Jesus. That is exactly what I am saying and it is Scripture. Jesus said that we were to do the same things and even greater things then He did. Is God unjust, did Jesus get a little carried away here?
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
What does Jesus’ going to the Father have to do with it? When Jesus went to the Father, He sent the Holy Spirit. We are now anointed and filled with the Holy Spirit just like Jesus and therefore have the same limitations Jesus had which were zero and ours are zero in the will of the Father. Keep in mind Jesus did not just go about doing any old thing, He said what the Father said, He did what he saw the Father do, and He acknowledged He could do nothing of Himself, that it was the Father working through Him. He was an obedient vessel and so must we be an obedient vessel through which God can work. If we don’t allow it, it does not get done. When the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit restored Jesus to the Godhead Hebrews 1:9 says that He was anointed “with the oil of gladness above thy fellows”.
Hebrews 1:5-9 (KJV)
5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
The word “gladness” in verse nine can also be translated ‘joy’. Remember Nehemiah wrote that the joy of the Lord was our strength. When we walk pleasing to the Father the fullness of the Anointing, the power of the Holy Spirit, can function in our lives. Jesus pleased the Father and the fullness of the power of the Holy Spirit is available to Him, restored to Him, and to us in Him. Let me be clear here about the fullness of the Holy Spirit being available to Jesus. From the time He entered Mary’s womb until His public ministry, in other words during His time of maturation just like with us this power was available in measure. The devil could not get to Him because of His obedience and diligence. From the time Jesus died spiritually on the Cross until He left hell going into Abraham’s bosom He was limited. Protected none the less by His innocent blood and the Words of His testimony. Who are the ‘fellows’ mentioned in Hebrews 1:9? That is you and I my friends. Jesus is the Head of the Church, the Head of you and me, His Anointing is greater for He is God but we have full access to the very same attributes in Him through our total submission.
Ephesians 1:20-23 (KJV)
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
