It is Monday and once again time for us to receive the Word of God. Scripture tells us that the Word of God is life for our spirit man and health or medicine to all of our flesh.
Proverbs 4:20-24 (KJV)
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
A froward mouth is a false mouth and perverse lips are lips that turn aside from the truth. In other words, say what God says and forget any other thoughts and words. Let us clean up our thinking and put a guard over our mouths.
Now, back to our study of the Book of Colossians.
Colossians 4:1 (KJV)
1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
In today’s Western culture we might say; employers treat your employees fairly knowing that you also have an Employer in Heaven. Employers who honor God are not to show partiality just as God does not show partiality. Employers are to do this knowing that they also have an Employer (Master) in Heaven and they want Him to be fair with them. Impartiality (neutrality, fairness, independence, objectivity, evenhandedness, and lack of prejudice) is a trait of God therefore it is a trait we have a responsibility to develop with His help (The Helper).
The Master in Heaven is the Lord God Almighty. Our Master (God) approaches us on a voluntary or free-will basis whereas our earthly or secular employment is not always a voluntary or free-will situation where we pick and choose what we want to do. God does not make us or force us to do anything. Of course there is the law of sowing and reaping. Our choices before the Lord have consequences. Sometimes I think that we don’t connect the dots in our lives. We don’t connect the stealing, killing, and destroying in our lives to the irreverent (disrespectful, impertinent, rude, flippant) way we approach and react to God. Listen to how God had Moses put it to the people. Have we chosen The Blessing or have we chosen the curse? What brings the manifestation of The Blessing into our lives?
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (KJV)
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.
Deuteronomy chapter twenty-eight has sixty-eight verses, the Blessing and His blessings are described in the first fourteen verses and the curse in the remaining fifty-four verses. Believe me, you really do not want anything to do with the curse.
Deuteronomy 28:15 (KJV)
15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
Remember, if we are an employer, business owner, or supervisor we will reap what we sow. The way that we treat others is the way we will be treated. However we render judgment concerning others determines the level of judgment we will reap. Unfair treatment of others is a sin. It is not that God will treat us unfairly if we treat others unfairly, it opens the door to the enemy. The enemy (devil) can go to God with the evidence of us being unfair and God has no choice but to judge us guilty and this opens us up (the hedge is down) to the enemy to steal, kill, and destroy in our lives. Now this works the same for the employee (servant). If we are unfair to our employers (masters) meaning we do not give them our best effort, God knows and so does the devil and a judgment will be rendered. We must connect the dots and quit this kind of behavior to get the stealing, killing, and destroying which is triggered by our thoughts, speech, and ways and is carried out by the devil in our lives.
