BEAUTIFUL FEET

The featured picture today is of Coos Canyon in Byron Maine. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and make a deep dive into the Truth.
John 12:3-8 (KJV)
3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
As we continue with our study of this Book of John, we find Jesus back in Bethany at the home of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. There are two events involving spikenard one is the one we are now discussing six days before Passover (this one) and the other one two days before Passover when “a woman” (Mark 14:3) anoints Jesus head with spikenard after breaking an alabaster box.

3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
Now, back to the account six days before Passover in our primary text. It seems that the Mary referenced in this account is the sister of Martha and Lazarus. This is the Mary that at the time of Lazarus death and being raised from the dead was in unbelief and weeping at home and at the graveside. On the other hand, her sister Martha maintained her faith confession and Lazarus walked out of the grave. As you will recall last week, I likened this to the account of Jairus and his daughter whom Jesus also raised from the dead. Jairus made a faith confession and never said another word even when news came that his daughter was now dead.
It seems to me that this being six days, mentioned specifically, before Passover is significant. As you may recall from the Exodus story the sacrificial lamb was set aside five days before Passover. The lamb was inspected the next five days to be sure it was pure just as Jesus will be the next five days when He is in and out of Jerusalem. Six is the number for man (man was created on the sixth day of this creation), Jesus was sent to redeem mankind, all who would choose Him. Spikenard is a very precious, expensive ointment representative of the Holy Spirit. This man Jesus is Anointed with the Holy Spirit. In this particular account the feet of Jesus are anointed with this precious ointment. This is the Lamb of God, this is the Messiah, the One who is about to pour out His precious Blood for our sins.
1 Peter 1:18-20 (KJV)
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
For the preceding three years Jesus has been preaching a message, a message of the way back to God, to be one with God once again, and many other wonderful Covenant provisions.
Romans 10:13-15 (KJV)
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
Except the Father send Jesus how would we know? The feet of Jesus were and are indeed beautiful. He alone provided the way back to God and the fulness of the Covenant. 
On a much less serious note, I am having another birthday today. I post the following picture each year. I am the second from the right or fourth from the left with my hands in front of my chest.
