HONOR AND PRAY FOR OUR LEADERS

Greetings dear ones and welcome to a special study of Presidents’ Day. Today is Presidents’ Day. According to history.com Presidents’ Day has its origin in the celebration of President George Washington’s Birthday the 22nd of February. Washington’s Birthday was informally observed during the 1800’s, becoming a Federal Holiday and signed into law by President Rutherford Hayes in 1879. Initially it applied to only the District of Columbia but in 1885 was expanded to the whole nation. In 1971 Washington’s Birthday became part of President’s Day which was to celebrate all Presidents of the United States. Listen to a few of the words of our first President as recorded in America’s God and Country Encyclopedia of Quotations.
“No Country upon Earth ever had it more in its power to attain these blessings…Much to be regretted indeed would it be, were we to neglect the means and depart from the road which Providence has pointed us to, so plainly; I cannot believe it will ever come to pass. The Great Governor of the Universe has led us too long and too far…to forsake us in the midst of it…We may, now and then, get bewildered; but I hope and trust that there is good sense and virtue enough left to recover the right path.”
Now let’s listen to the words of President Garfield in light of the current condition of our nation. James Garfield (1831-1881), the twentieth President of the United States and Minister of the Gospel said: “The people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities…If the next centennial does not find us a great nation…it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”
The Church, the body of Christ, are the ones with authority, dominion over the earth. It seems to me that most of the body of Christ does not know that and those that do are not doing it. It is our, the Churches, responsibility to put people in office that are preferably Christian and have a Judeo-Christian world view. In office we are commanded to pray for our leaders. If the persons in office don’t reflect your values the one to blame is looking back at you in the mirror. This is of course not all elected leaders across the United States but those in your jurisdiction, on the ballot you voted.
We do not control people, that is witchcraft, but we have dominion over the evil and good powers that influence people.
Matthew 16:18-19 (KJV)
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
The gates of Hell are the enemies strongholds in all of the seven mountains of influence in our nation. Verse eighteen tells us plainly that these gates, these strongholds are no match for the Church. We are to be above and not beneath, the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13). Whatever we bind (forbid) and whatever we loose (allow) Heaven will back up be it good or bad. Being silent failing to exercise our delegated authority allows evil to flourish. Let me again to be clear, we are not binding and loosing people or controlling people but the spiritual forces influencing people be they good or bad. For Christians not to be involved in politics is stupidity on steroids. Pray for those in office and those who are appointed of God to be in office.
1 Timothy 2:1-4 (ESV)
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
TAKE HOME:
- We are to honor and celebrate our Presidents. If they are evil, it is our failure not theirs.
- We the people of the United States particularly those who are of the body of Christ are responsible for the moral character of the nation.
- Pray daily for our leaders, especially those in your jurisdiction.
Lord willing, I will resume our study of the Book of James right here tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
