Greetings to all reading this Bible teaching and welcome to the ongoing study of “The Kingdom of God”. This is teaching number 137. I am spending so much time on this topic because Jesus did in His earthly ministry. Jesus has gone on to the Right Hand of the Father and left us to continue His Ministry and to do even greater things (John 14:12). Let’s turn our attention to our anchor Scripture.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Once again, we return to our familiar anchor Scripture or text but is it immoveable Truth for each one of us? As you and I contemplate our answer examining our lives what do we find. People are watching our lives, are they seeing Godly righteousness, peace, and joy. Are they seeing the things needed for this life flowing to us as we stay focused on the Kingdom of God and His ways? As I have mentioned many times, but it bears repeating. The things of this life being added to us does not mean we don’t have a part to play. We certainly do but we are not stressed and focused on those things, but we are focused and are diligent about what pleases the Father.
Now, to our teaching passage for today.
2 Thessalonians 1:4-6 (KJV)
4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:
5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:
6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
As we meditate on this passage I want to bring a few things to our thinking. Jesus is the prototype son. He is our prime example. We learn much from the Patriarchs, the Judges, the Prophets, the Apostles, and others but they are not our prime examples. Jesus primary mission was to go to the Cross, destroying the works of the Devil. We are not called to die for Him; he died for us. As a small child His life was in danger, but His parents were warned and He was taken to safety. During His Ministry the religious ruling class wanted to murder Him on more than one occasion, but He walked away. He endured harassment and intense criticism. But not once was He physically harmed nor was He and the Ministry harmed otherwise, like financially.
Jesus said we are to do the things He did and even greater things. Jesus said we are to bring Heaven upon the earth. How much killing of the saints is going on in Heaven? Is the killing of anyone ever the will of God? Why is it thought in the days immediately following Christ and today that being martyred for our faith is a righteous thing?
Back to our text.
2 Thessalonians 1:4 (KJV)
4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:
The Apostle Paul is bragging on these saints when at other Churches. He is impressed by their patience and unwavering faith in the face of persecutions and tribulations. This persecution and tribulation is pressure that is put on them to let go of the Word of God, their faith in Christ Jesus, the Word. The enemy always comes for the Word. Remember in the Garden the Serpent asked Eve if God really said. The Apostle goes on to say that their patience and faith is outward evidence, a testimony, that they are worthy of the Kingdom to which they are called. The spiritual reality is that we are made worthy in Christ Jesus of the Kingdom of God at salvation by the work Jesus did at Calvary. However, failure on our part to be patient in the face of adversity or to walk fully persuaded (in faith) is treasonous to our King. We have to walk as Jesus walked to live as Jesus lived.
TAKE HOME:
- We are to be focused on and diligent about what pleases the Father. This is primarily faith but remember that love, which is obedience to Scripture, selflessness, and walking in Blood Covenant is the foundation of faith, the power of faith.
- Jesus is the prototype son; we are to live as He lived.
- Patience and faith are required to stand and prosper in the face of persecutions and tribulations.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Saturday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
