HIS GLORY
Thursday – September 13, 2018, Tishrei 4, 5779

Greetings precious brothers and sisters in the Lord and welcome back to this wonderful Bible Study taken from the Book of John. God is so good to give us His Word that we need not wander about in the dark. For those of you new to Christianity and Scripture understand that the “dark” I am speaking of is spiritual darkness verses spiritual light. Spiritual darkness is ignorance of Scripture and the deceptions of our spiritual enemies whereas spiritual light is Scriptural knowledge (coupled with faith) and a casting down of the devil’s deceptions. Again, our God is so very good! The featured picture is taken from Mount Batti in Camden Maine on a recent visit. Now let us prepare to read our primary text aloud and move into our Bible Study.
John 1:12-16 (KJV)
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
We have already discussed that when we are born again and enter the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Light, the Kingdom of His dear Son, we enter as children not as sons. To become a son (or daughter) requires a maturation process. We and we alone choose whether to mature or not. God has given us the authority, the legal capacity to be sons of God. This is very important because sons are the ones who can exercise the benefits of ownership, advance the family name effectively, and exercise (allow to flow through) the Power of God to bring about creative miracles of all types. We have also talked about how when a person decides to believe on the name of Jesus they are not born again by flesh and blood or the will of man but by the Power of God. We become new creations, new creatures, like none that have ever existed. We are not like Adam for we are in Christ Jesus who is in the Father. We have a buffer so that if we do sin we are not subject to the full force of the law of sin and death as was Adam in the Garden. I put the word “if” in the preceding sentence to highlight the fact that we are not required to sin, neither are we doomed to sin. We can with the help of Grace lead a sinless life just as our Savior and role model Christ Jesus.
From verse fourteen of our text I dealt with the phrase “the Word was made flesh” yesterday. As I have discussed many times in the past the spirit (spirit and soul) or immaterial part that defines us and Jesus (The Word) are the same. In the beginning Adam and all who followed including you and me were made in the image and likeness of God (Elohim, the Triune God) which is our immaterial part. Concerning Jesus, that image and likeness came into the earth having set aside all that made Him fully God upon vacating the Throne of Heaven. He entered the flesh, the tabernacle prepared for Him by the Father (Holy Spirit). The body of Adam (and Jesus) came from the dust of the earth and I believe the body of Christ Jesus came from the earth. Jesus was the last Adam. What was the force or spiritual law that allowed all of this to occur. It was the law of Words. Words, Words of God, first spoken by the Word Himself and then spoken by others for some four thousand years from the Garden until fulfillment in the womb of Mary.
Next, we find that the peoples of that time, the time when Jesus was physically in the earth as a man, saw Glory, pure goodness emanate from this man of God. By the way, never loose sight of the fact that all those around us are to observe the same. The basic meaning of the word “glory” is to have favorable thoughts or opinions based on the witness of our lives. However, that does not really get to what is being said in our text. Let us think about the following verses for a moment.
Exodus 33:17-19 (KJV)
17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
In this passage we find Moses asking God to show him His glory and God responds with I will show you my goodness. You probably know the rest of the story where God hides Moses in the cleft of the rock (Christ) and proclaims the name of the LORD while He passes by and Moses sees His back parts. The ultimate goodness or glory of God is Christ Jesus. We, all of mankind, needed a Savior above all else and Moses saw the coming Messiah that day just as God had shown Abraham in the land of Moriah many years before when he brought Isaac for sacrifice. Oh, the Glory, the goodness of God!

Ephesians 1:19-23 (KJV)
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
