Greetings to one and all and welcome to this teaching on Grace. The picture is AI generated to depict the Apostle Paul in a weakened condition and a dark figure lurking behind him. Yes, I will be talking about Paul’s “thorn in the flesh”. No matter what the manifestation of the thorn in the flesh might have been, demonic powers were involved. The Lord gave me this teaching on the 26th of February 2026 at 5:10 A.M. Five is the number of Grace or Gods goodness and ten is the number of responsibility, ours and His. In this case He gave me the responsibility to do this teaching. Now let’s go to our first Scripture.
Zechariah 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
We see in our text that the Lord is telling Zerubbabel that it will not be in his might or power that the mountain (obstacle) will be removed but by speaking to it, saying “Grace, grace unto it”. Now let’s look at the first use of this word “grace”.
Genesis 6:8 (KJV)
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
The Hebrew word is transliterated to English as grace is hēn meaning graciousness, kindness, favor, pleasant, precious, and favored according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. God certainly showed Noah and his family, eight souls in all. Eight being the number of new beginnings. It was a fresh start for mankind. It doesn’t look like we have done much better with this second chance. Let’s look at the Apostle Paul’s “thorn in the flesh”. I am presenting a lengthy passage to give context.
2 Corinthians 12:1-9 (KJV)
1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
5 Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.
6 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me.
7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Many ministers assume that it was the Apostle Paul who was the one “caught up to the third heaven” however the text does not say that. Then he reminds us that he has been given much revelation not previously uncovered. He goes on to say that so he wouldn’t get a big head he was given “a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure”. I have heard much conjecture about what this thorn in the flesh was. Some say an illness of some sort, others a person that harassed him, and others say it was demons that were harassing him. In verse eight we see that he went to the Lord three times so that it might depart from him. He was asking God to remove this thorn in the flesh. The Lord’s answer is that His Grace is sufficient for this task (removing the thorn in the flesh). Paul is going to have to speak to this thorn in the flesh and then Grace will remove the thorn whatever it is. Remember Zerubbabel.
Let’s look at the word translated as grace from Greek to English. It is charis meaning graciousness, divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life, acceptable, benefit, favor, gift, grace, joy, liberality, and pleasure according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. In this case God is saying my gift (Holy Spirit, authority) is sufficient but you must act (speak) giving Him direction. Then He will do the work, that is remove the thorn in the flesh. Remember this is spiritual activity over which we have authority and must bring it from the spirit realm to the natural. We do not war with flesh and blood but evil spirits. Now, let’s look at another Scripture that I hope is familiar which like Zerubbabel we are told to speak to the mountain, the thorn in our flesh.
Mark 11:22-24 (KJV)
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
We must have faith in God, the promises of God, our authority in Christ Jesus. Functional faith is being fully persuaded of the Word of God, and the Word of God is the only possible answer it is not one of many. Yes, Grace removes, removes the thorn in the flesh when we speak to it (symbolic of a mountain).
TAKE HOME:
- It was not by Zerubbabel’s natural might or power that the mountain was made a plain. It became a plain when He spoke to the mountain and Grace made it a plain.
- Whatever the Apostle Paul’s thorn in the flesh might have been it was not removed by appealing to God. God told Paul that His Grace was sufficient. This was not graced to bear it with a good attitude but to remove it. However, it required that Paul speak to the mountain and then Grace was sufficient to remove the mountain. My personal view is that his thorn in the flesh was a physical issue brought by oppression of an evil spirit.
- When you speak to the mountain in faith God will remove it.
As the Lord wills, I will return with fresh revelation tomorrow. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
