FULL OF TRUTH
Thursday – September 20, 2018, Tishrei 11, 5779
Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful faith building Bible Study based on the Book of John. God is so good to give us His Word to guide us in all things, yes, literally, all things. Jesus, the Word, is not only full of Truth He is Truth. Let us now prepare to read our primary text from the Book of John. Read this text aloud so that these powerful Words of God are not only in our eyes but in our mouth and in our ears.
John 1:14-16 (KJV)
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
The Word as we have discussed at length is not only the Word of God spoken by a living voice but it is a name of the One we call Jesus today in Eternity past (before Genesis 1:1). God is known by many names just as you and I are known by many names, titles, or we might even think in terms of function. For example, I am a son, but I am also a father, an uncle, and so on. There was a time when I was not a father, just as with the Word there was a time He was not a Son and known as Jesus. My function or what may be expected of me varies in each role but I am the one and same person. So, it is with the Word, Jesus. Jesus is the Greek counterpart of Joshua in the Hebrew meaning Jehovah saves or saved. Thus, when the Word was to come as Messiah, the One who would save, who would take away the sins of the world a different name was required. This Messiah, Jesus, the Word become flesh or a human being not only radiated the abundant goodness of God (glory) but was full of grace and truth.
Before I move forward to focus on truth I want to remind us all again that the words “glory”, “grace”, and “truth” which are all facets, or functions of Holy Spirit. The glory of God is always a visible manifestation of His goodness in the life of a person and most commonly it refers to and describes physical wealth. Expressions of Holy Spirit that are commonly referred to as the glory of God includes the cloud that guided the Israelites in the wilderness by day and the fire that guided them by night. There may be a visible haze or cloud in a Church like at Azusa Street and I have seen from time to time. The grace of God is also Holy Spirit, this is the quickening function of Holy Spirit at salvation but it is also a function that changes our circumstances pouring out favor all about us. This brings us to our main topic, truth, which is also a function of Holy Spirit, He is the Spirit of Truth.
Some years ago, the Lord was gracious to me and gave me insight into this idea of Truth. I capitalize for it has a Divine aspect. We are not just talking about something said that is free of any deception, as you will see it includes that but is far more. There are four major aspects of Truth and they are the Word, Holy Spirit, Jesus, and Love. The purpose of having a knowledge of the Truth and being full of the Truth is so that we can be a representation of the Father, a revelation of the Father, an expression of the Father, and illustration of the Father, and a demonstration of the Father. We must come to that point where we can say with confidence as Jesus did, when you have seen me you have seen the Father.
John 14:9 (KJV)
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
We sometimes hear in the natural that so and so “is the spitting image of his father” or “he is just like his father” or “she is just like her mother”. Can people say that about us and our Heavenly Father. If not why not? You might be saying “oh but brother Wood, that was Jesus!” Yeah, and who are we supposed to be like?
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Do people witness that they behold our glory (the goodness of God on every side and as a witness hind ward), and that we are full of grace and truth? Wherever we go there should be nothing but good left behind in the lives of people. As I close for today let us look at the following verse and see if it gives us clues how we are to move forward. Time is a wasting precious ones, the Kingdom is not being furthered, and Hell is being enlarged by our slackness and lack of proper teaching and training.

4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
