HONOR THE SON
Thursday – November 29, 2018, Kislev 21, 5779
Greetings my brothers and sisters and welcome back to this faith building Bible Study of the Book of John. God is so good to give us His Word so that we have light and choose the good way. As we saw yesterday one judgment that we make will take us before Christ and life forever more with Him and the other judgment will take us to the White Throne and eternal damnation. Now, let’s turn our attention to today’s Bible Study by first reading our primary text aloud.
John 5:22-25 (KJV)
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
Yesterday I spent time on the idea of judging and that we will all, the saved and unsaved, stand before the judge who according to our text is Christ Jesus. Judging and judgment has to do with separating, distinguishing, discriminating between good and evil, selecting, and choosing out the good according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. Today we are turning to the twenty-third verse and the idea of honor. To honor someone has to do with placing value upon that person. For example, if we say we honor God but we do not study the Word, we do not give into the ministry at least of the local Church, nor do we tithe can we honestly say we honor or value the Word, God Himself? If we are bad mouthing our pastor, wife, children, or neighbor what value have we placed upon them? Particularly concerning the wife or husband remember you are one flesh and to not honor the other is to not honor ourselves. We are told elsewhere in Scripture that Jesus and the Father are one and we in Jesus are one with both the Father and the Son. To not place a value (honor) upon ourselves is to dishonor the Son, the sacrifice, and it certainly dishonors the Father. The price paid by God for each and every one of us was the very highest price Heaven could pay. Our value was established by the price God paid.
1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV)
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Now back to honor and the idea that you cannot honor Jesus without honoring the Father nor can one honor the Father without honoring Jesus for they are one. And as we will see in the following Scripture we one with the Father and with the Son.
John 17:20-23 (KJV)
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
The amazing and wonderful thing is this, there is nothing that was given Jesus that is not given us in the same measure, really without measure (John 3:34), as we are in obedience (love) to God. We have been given the same glory as Jesus. Remember, the glory of God is the goodness of God. Just by the nature of God His goodness is without limit and all was given Jesus. In turn this infinite goodness, glory, given Jesus has now been given us without measure. This brings us to perhaps one of the most astounding passages in all of the Bible and that is that the Father loves us in the same way He loved Jesus (verse 23). In other words, whatever He, the Father, did for Jesus at any point, He has done the same for us. That includes the earthly ministry, life, of Jesus, and it includes the salvation, the resurrection, and the full restoration of Jesus. All ours in this wonderful Blood Covenant sealed, ratified forever by the precious Blood of Jesus testifying eternally from the Mercy Seat of Heaven.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
