RESCUED FROM EVERY TRAP AND DISEASE

Greetings precious saints of God and welcome back to this ongoing study of the 91st Psalm. This particular passage of Scripture has been commonly recognized as a Psalm of protection. Protection from all that we need protection from however like all other benefits in the Kingdom of God there are qualifiers. All of the benefits of the Kingdom are ours at Salvation, however I am sure you figured out long ago nothing including salvation is automatic. This is really no different than a job you may have worked. Getting hired requires certain things and being eligible and receiving certain benefits once hired require certain things. The following is a list of requirements for “dwelling in the secret place”.
First, what about the word “secret”? This word secret to transliterated from the Greek as sit̠rāh, a masculine noun meaning a covering, a hiding place, a secret according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – Old Testament. So, the “secret place” is a spiritual condition we achieve in obedience to God where we are completely covered by God, beyond access by our spiritual enemies. Again, consider the list of conditions.
- Faith is necessary (Romans 10:17)
- Meditation of the Word the promise is needed (Joshua 1:8)
- We must focus on the promise (2 Corinthians 4:18)
- We must call it done before we see it (Romans 4:17-22)
- We must have knowledge (2 Peter 1:2-4)
- God has given us all things including His protection to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17)
- We must be free of sin (Ezekial 7:8,22)
When we fulfill these criteria, we are in the “secret Place” the “shadow of the Almighty” and enjoy the same protection He has, and Jesus enjoyed in the earth. Now, we will move further into this 91st Psalm.
Psalm 91:1-8 (KJV)
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
It is vital that each of us understand that simply reading this every day, reciting it daily no matter how fervently will not bring protection by itself. We fulfil the qualifiers for this place of absolute protection, and we declare our position with our mouth. Declaring (confess) it with our mouth without fulfilling the qualifiers will get us nothing. Generally, we will only fulfil the qualifiers if we believe, believe in our heart, that the promise is true and irrevocable.
Did you notice that verse three starts with great confidence that our deliverance is without question and will be without delay. Let’s look at verses three and four in the New Living Translation.
Psalm 91:3-4 (NLT)
3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.
4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
The traps, the snares of the fowler are the devices, tricks, deceptions of the demons. They work on our thought life independently and through other people and media sources. We also see more clearly from the NLT that in the secret place we are protected from deadly disease, really all disease not just deadly disease, and not just infectious disease. That is not an invitation to be presumptuous but to be confident. The Devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness to test God (Luke 4:9-12), to be presumptuous. This is also not an invitation to snub our nose at lawful authority which is sin (carefully read Romans 13). As we look at verse four let’s ask ourselves if there is a safer place than to be covered enveloped by God Himself. That is the definition of safe. What is the qualifiers? We must trust Him; we must believe, trust His Truth. There is no place for “I hope this works”.
TAKE HOME:
- Our safety is not automatic because we are saved, cute, or recite the 91st Psalm daily.
- There is no safer place than be enveloped by God.
- We must Trust God, His character, and His Truth which is the Word of God.
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
