THE REWARD OF THE WICKED

Greetings precious saints of God and welcome back to this ongoing study of the 91st Psalm. This particular passage of Scripture has been commonly recognized as a Psalm of protection. Protection from all that we need protection from. Like all other benefits in the Kingdom of God there are qualifiers. All of the benefits of the Kingdom are ours at Salvation. I am sure you figured out long ago that nothing including salvation is automatic. This is really no different than a job you may have worked. Getting hired requires certain things and being eligible and receiving certain benefits once hired require certain things. The following is a list of seven requirements for “dwelling in the secret place of the Most High”.
1. Faith is necessary (Romans 10:17)
2. Meditation of the Word the promise needed (Joshua 1:8)
3. We must focus on the promise (2 Corinthians 4:18)
4. We must call it done before we see it (Romans 4:17-22)
5. We must have knowledge (2 Peter 1:2-4)
6. We must know that God has given us all things to enjoy including His protection (1 Timothy 6:17)
7. We must be free of sin (Ezekial 7:8,22)
Now, let’s jump into our primary Bible text and explore the goodness of God.
Psalm 91:1-8 (KJV)
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Yesterday we studied the fifth verse and today we will move into the sixth verse. We commonly think of the word “pestilence” as some sort of sickness particularly an infectious disease. However, when you look at this word it has to do with destroying words or speech uttered by, in, or from darkness. These words could be told in our hearing, face to face, or those spoken behind our backs meant to bring destruction to our lives. The word “destruction” later in the verse has to do with an event that suddenly cuts off or dramatically changes our current situation. Here again the absence of fear is key and full confidence in God is essential. Again, review the seven (spiritual maturity) conditions earlier in this teaching which place us in God’s cocoon. The following are synonyms of fear, dread, anxiety, distress, fright, panic, alarm, trepidation, apprehension, phobias, or worry and are to have no place in our lives, period.
Before ending today let’s take a look at verses seven and eight. In that secret place of the Most High there will be people falling all around us but not us. How important is it that you, that I, make being in the secret place, the shadow of the Almighty a very high priority? Did you notice that will phrase “it shall not come nigh there?” In the secret place, behind Gods hedge, our path is illuminated to avoid the snares of the evil ones. Fatal diseases have no place in us. Words and actions that bring terror to others has no effect on us. Negative words and reports are brushed aside as demonic lies. Sudden changes that seem to cut off our path are nothing in our sight. People are falling all around us both in the body of Christ and in the world, but we stand firm. As the Scripture says in the eighth verse, we only look and see the reward of the wicked. As I have pointed out numerous times, the wicked are not just the unsaved. People can be saved and be wicked.
TAKE HOME:
- Words uttered to destroy us are of no effect when we are truly in the secret place and things the enemy devises to cut us off suddenly fall into chaos.
- We will see people falling all around us, but it does not even come close to us. This falling may be in death, sickness, financial ruin but not us.
- Wickedness has a harvest, let us be sure we are harboring and doing no wickedness.
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
