HEAR THE WORD AND BELIEVE

Greetings and welcome back to this powerful and faith building Bible Study from the Book of John. God is so good to us, giving us the Word, that we have light and not stumble. Now let’s delve into our fascinating and knowledge enhancing Bible Study first by reading our primary text aloud.
John 5:22-25 (KJV)
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
Today I will be picking up with verse twenty-four. This verse and several more to come are all in red, all the Master’s voice. As we have studied to this point, we have seen how the ministry of Jesus was directed from Heaven, from the Father, and it was the Father (through the Holy Spirit) who did the works. The works are all the miraculous things we see in the ministry of Jesus. It is to be no different for us. Our life, our whole life is to be directed of Heaven. The more we become like Jesus the more victory and satisfaction we will have in our natural and spiritual lives. The laws of the spirit dominate the laws of nature. The natural laws like gravity and so on were established of God and have mirror images in the spiritual realm. It is a massive deception of the devil, our spiritual enemies, to think that the laws of God are designed to keep us from natural enjoyments. Nothing is further from the Truth, they are designed to maximize our natural lives in every aspect. When I say every aspect, I am referring to every aspect that is in line with the will of God. The will of God provides the maximal enjoyment this side of Glory, it provides abundance of all things, whereas going crosswise the will of God brings stealing, killing, and destroying into our natural and spiritual lives.
We have talked about the Father loving the Son, but today the Father has many sons and He, the Father, loves them all individually, just like He loved and loves Jesus (John 17:23). When people do not honor us, they are simultaneously dishonoring the Father and the Savior (Jesus). Consider the following well known passage.
Acts 9:1-5 (KJV)
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
As I am sure you quickly recognize this passage has to do with the conversion of Saul to the Apostle Paul. Notice that Jesus took the persecution of the Christians very personally. Jesus did not say; why are you persecuting my people, He said why are you persecuting me. Please don’t ever let persecution keep you from hearing and focusing on the voice of God and doing exactly what He says for that is your only real protection. Neither you nor I or anyone else in the body of Christ are called to die, shed blood, for the sake of the gospel. That is not to say that people are not dying all around the world because they will not renounce the Lord Jesus Christ. What we observe does not translate into the will of God. We witness all kinds of things in our own lives and all about us that have nothing to do with the will of God. Martyrdom like we see in Islam is a perversion of the devil.
As we finish for today, I want to make one final point about verse twenty-one and then I will finish with a few comments on verse twenty-four.
John 5:21 (KJV)
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
The quickening here, to make alive refers to both the natural and the spiritual. In fact, all of the things we talk about have a spiritual and a natural component. For example, take the issue of honoring the Son and honoring the Father. Remember, at its base to honor is to value, it has to do with putting your money where your mouth is. If we say we love the Lord and honor Him yet we do not give and we do not tithe, those are lies coming from our mouth. As we enter verse twenty-four, we are talking specifically about salvation but this is a general spiritual law for wealth, healing, our families, our ministry, and so on. Sounds a lot like the following verse.
Romans 10:8-10 (KJV)
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
