BECAUSE OF THE LOAVES
Wednesday – January 2, 2019, Tevet 25, 5779
Greetings to all and welcome back to this powerful and faith building (if we will purpose in our hearts and allow) Bible Study of the Book of John. Mindless hearing of the Word does not lead to faith, it must be listened to with purpose. The hearing of the Word of God by our physical ears allows our spiritual ears to hear and that is when faith comes. Faith always comes, will we elect to follow Holy Spirit in love taking the corresponding action to cause the unseen to be seen. Now let us take a look at our primary Bible text and move forward in our study.
John 6:24-28 (KJV)
24 When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
25 And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27 Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
As we pick up this account in the twenty-fifth verse, we see the people asking Jesus when and how He got to Capernaum. Remember, when Jesus goes to Capernaum He is going home, He has a house in Capernaum and it was not a poor man’s home. Jesus is independently wealthy, was able to sustain Himself and perhaps the whole ministry over the three years of His ministry. As a matter of fact, it appears that most if not all of the disciples He choose where also well situated financially. This is not my topic for today so I will move back to the text hoping a great fire was not kindled in your hair. As I have noted before it is not uncommon for two conversations to be happening simultaneously in these encounters with Jesus. The people are having a natural conversation and Jesus is having a spiritual conversation, and so it is here. In verse twenty-six Jesus tells them you are not seeking me for the supernatural but the natural. What they don’t realize is that all of the natural manifestations of our life come out of the supernatural or hidden realm. These natural manifestations of our life are created from our thought life and the words of our mouth in which we have faith. Let look at verse twenty-seven in another Bible translation.
John 6:27 (PassionNTPsa)
27 Why would you strive for food that is perishable and not be passionate to seek the food of eternal life, which never spoils? I, the Son of Man, am ready to give you what matters most, for God the Father has destined me for this purpose.”
Let me reiterate a Truth that I have brought to light many times before but bears repeating here. From the moment of our conception in our mother’s womb we have an eternal existence. Where we will exist eternally is totally our choice, that is, will it be Hell or Heaven? Our bodies in the natural form are temporary and for the saved we will receive a glorified or uncorrupted body soon. Now, we all know that we need food, we need drink, we need clothing, and many other things but our focus is not to be the things of this natural life but the things of the supernatural life. When He is first for us, we are first for Him. As we come to a finish for today, let’s take a look at this passage in a fuller context in the Passion Translation.
John 6:26-29 (PassionNTPsa)
26 Jesus replied, “Let me make this very clear, you came looking for me because I fed you by a miracle, not because you believe in me.
27 Why would you strive for food that is perishable and not be passionate to seek the food of eternal life, which never spoils? I, the Son of Man, am ready to give you what matters most, for God the Father has destined me for this purpose.”
28 They replied, “So what should we do if we want to do God’s work?”
29 Jesus answered, “The work you can do for God starts with believing in the One he has sent.”
Jesus has pointed out to them that He came to bring eternal life and now they want to know what they are to do for God. As we continue into verse twenty-nine Jesus tells them it starts with believing in the One God sent to bring eternal life. It is always faith! The One whom God sent is Jesus Himself. To do any work for God we must be in the Kingdom, we must be in the family, and we must be in faith (faith in Him, faith in the name, faith in the Word). It is like a natural company, we cannot do any work for them until we are hired, until and we submit to their policy and procedure manual. Same in the Kingdom of God. The difference in the Kingdom of God is that He is always hiring, if we will come declaring Jesus as Lord we are hired and He has extraordinarily wonderful plans for each of us.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
