THE WORKS BEAR WITNESS OF ME
Monday – June 10, 2019, Sivan 7, 5779
Greetings dear saints of God and welcome back to this powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. The Lord is taking the cover off for us to peer into His will and ways, they are not intended by God to be a secret hidden from His people. Whenever you hear people spouting off that we can’t know the ways of God cast that down, we can not only know the ways of God but walk in His ways as well. Not only are His ways to be our ways but His thoughts are to be our thoughts, and His Word are to be our words. We have the mind of Christ dear ones. The difference between knowing His ways and not knowing His ways is lack of fellowship with Him, failure to study, and a lack of willingness to take responsibility for our thoughts, words, and ways. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and read it aloud.
John 10:24-27 (KJV)
24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.
25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
We are well into the tenth chapter of John and Jesus has been telling the Jews, those assembled including the ruling religious class, that He is indeed the Messiah now come. Instead of being elated and searching the Scripture to prove it correct they want to kill Him. The prophecies were abundant to establish beyond any doubt the authenticity that He (Jesus) is in Truth the Messiah. Jesus was a threat to their fiefdom (one group dominating another) and they were envious of Him. They were envious for many reasons perhaps but the discussion at hand is the healing of the sick. They are wanting to kill Him saying He has a devil because He healed on the Sabbath. Keep in mind that there is no Scriptural evidence that they healed anyone of anything on any day. As we move into the twenty-fifth verse Jesus makes it clear that the works testify of who He is just as they should testify of who we are or Whose we are. Jesus is repeating Himself, this was important for them, and for us. He is not repeating Himself because He couldn’t think of anything else to say. I want to take this opportunity to remind myself and you the reader of a couple of things. One is that we are to be doing what He did and even greater things (study Isaiah 61).
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Remember that Jesus is the Word, when we believe the Word, we will do the works Jesus did and even greater. We do things in the name of Jesus, Jesus did things in the name of the Father. We don’t see Him saying be healed in the name of the Father like we say in the name of Jesus. Everything that Jesus did was via the delegated authority of the Father and everything we do is by the delegated authority of the Father, to Jesus, to us. When we are moving as led of the Holy Spirit, we are moving in His name, His name is all over us and the curse, the oppressing demons can see that clearly. We must always be clear in our ministry just as Jesus was in His, that it is the Father by the agency of the Holy Spirit that does the works. At our command, just as in the ministry of Jesus the Hand of God is moved to accomplish wonderful things in people’s lives. Jesus did everything by decree or command as an Anointed man not as God. If that were not true, His command for us to do what He did and even greater things would be a cruel hoax. Let’s take a look at Mark chapter sixteen as we end for today.
Mark 16:17-20 (KJV)
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Notice verse twenty (number of redemption) that the Lord worked with them but the signs were to confirm the Word, the Word of God. The Word is Jesus, the signs that followed Jesus, the Word, confirmed that He was of God, in His case proving He was indeed the Messiah. Likewise, in our lives the signs confirm the Word, the name of Jesus upon us and in whose authority, we live, move, and have our being.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
