Greetings dear saints of God and welcome back to this exciting study of “The Trail of Blood”. We are following from before the foundation of the world, the Garden of Eden, Noah, Abraham, and now Moses. An exciting journey to full and eternal redemption and return to the original intent of God.
We are picking up once again with the procedures for The Day of Atonement. Atonement is a covering. Sacrifice of Jesus, the Lamb of God, completely washed away our sin giving us eternal life and a glorified body later, a healthy one now (if we accept it). We are looking at a mirror image of Calvary. We will again pick up with the High Priest making atonement for himself which is the same as for the people. Jesus did this, except He was the sacrifice, it was His Blood and His Words (Revelation 12:11) echoing the Prophets that brought Him out of Hell and full restoration, same as us.
Leviticus 16:11-14 (ESV)
11 “Aaron shall present the bull as a sin offering for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house. He shall kill the bull as a sin offering for himself.
12 And he shall take a censer full of coals of fire from the altar before the LORD, and two handfuls of sweet incense beaten small, and he shall bring it inside the veil
13 and put the incense on the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is over the testimony, so that he does not die.
14 And he shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the front of the mercy seat on the east side, and in front of the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.
The procedures here are the same as we reviewed in Leviticus chapter four, except that Aaron once a year enters the veil. The burning coals (representing the cleansing Holy Spirit) from off the altar, and incense (to cover the stench of flesh) is brought into the Most Holy Place within the veil. Sin came by way of the flesh (what the sensual body wants), and fallen flesh is repugnant to God. Now Aaron sprinkles the blood of the bullock upon the mercy seat eastward seven times. Later, Jesus will take His very own blood to the mercy seat in Heaven and sprinkle it there seven times taking away sin forever (Hebrews 12:24).
Our Savior will appear for us in the eastern sky soon, and our bodies will be fully redeemed (Romans 8:23). We shall see Him as He is, for we shall be like Him (1 John 3:2)! Jesus was sinless, so He did not need redemption. He took our sin, became sin for us, and suffered the terrible consequence of sin, separation from the Father for the first time from eternity past. His blood took that sin away and restored Him to the Father. Justice and Righteousness could not allow Jesus to remain in Hell. Spiritual life was restored, physical life was restored, and He was again made the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Colossians 2:9) by the Father (Hebrews One, Psalms Two).
Now by this same process, Aaron, the High Priest, will make atonement for the people.
Leviticus 16:7-8 (ESV)
7 Then he shall take the two goats and set them before the LORD at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
8 And Aaron shall cast lots over the two goats, one lot for the LORD and the other lot for Azazel.
I will return later to the issue of the scapegoat.
Leviticus 16:15-19 (ESV)
15 “Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering that is for the people and bring its blood inside the veil and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, sprinkling it over the mercy seat and in front of the mercy seat.
16 Thus he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleannesses of the people of Israel and because of their transgressions, all their sins. And so he shall do for the tent of meeting, which dwells with them in the midst of their uncleannesses.
17 No one may be in the tent of meeting from the time he enters to make atonement in the Holy Place until he comes out and has made atonement for himself and for his house and for all the assembly of Israel.
18 Then he shall go out to the altar that is before the LORD and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the blood of the bull and some of the blood of the goat, and put it on the horns of the altar all around.
19 And he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it and consecrate it from the uncleannesses of the people of Israel.
I want to make a comment about verse seventeen as we move forward. There were not saints in Heaven before Jesus took His blood to the Mercy Seat of Heaven on the day of His Resurrection. Then He led those captive in the Bosom of Abraham home to Heaven. What a picture, can you see it? We see here that exactly the same procedure he did for himself, he did for the people. The blood of Jesus not only took the load of our sins off of Him but removed them from us. The whole issue of sin was removed forever. Only one sin remains, and that is the rejection of Christ when the Holy Spirit calls. This is called blaspheming the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31). This trampling of the Blood of Christ is the unforgiven, the unforgivable sin, and the sin unto death.
TAKE HOME:
- Jesus was cleansed of sin (He did not sin, He was made sin to pay the penalty we could not pay) and made righteous and holy the same was we are at salvation.
- We await the fulness of salvation with the redemption of our bodies, it won’t be long when Jesus sounds the trump of God, and we meet Him in the air to ever be with Him.
- If you don’t know Jesus as Lord and Savior wait no longer, you do not know if you will have even one more breath. Jesus has paid your penalty which is eternal death (consciousness without God or goodness of any kind).
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Monday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
