BLASPHEMY IS LYING ABOUT GOD

Welcome back dear saints and others to our study of The Trail of Blood from Heaven before the foundation of the world to the Garden of Eden, to Cain and Abel, to Noah, to Abraham, to Moses, and now to the Lord our Rock. Jesus is that spiritual Rock from which we all now drink. He is the Rock that was broken that we may drink.
1 Corinthians 10:1-4 (ESV)
1 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
3 and all ate the same spiritual food,
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
This is reference to the children of Israel receiving water from the rock in the wilderness. Water is representative of the Word of God; it refreshes and cleanses. Drink what the fully revealed Word of the Savior, the Messiah. Jesus speaks of Himself as this stone.
Matthew 21:42-45 (ESV)
42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits.
44 And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them.
The builders are the Jewish people and we, the Church, are those producing the fruits of the Kingdom of God. Now, let’s pick up from yesterday a little more about stoning.
Leviticus 24:16 (KJV)
16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death. [2]
God takes the use of His name very seriously. One of the meanings of the word blaspheme is libel. Basically, to libel a person is to speak untruths about them, either in the form of speech, written materials, or pictures. [3] This has gotten to be very commonplace in our world. For example, insurance companies call damage from storms, acts of God. Well, God is not the source of destructive storms; Satan is the source of those storms. When someone passes (dies), you may say that God took them home. Well, hopefully, they went to Heaven; but God did not take them or cause their death by sickness and disease. Most commonly the devil, the thief, stole their life with sickness; and the result was physical death. Their spirit and soul moved, or was taken, to Heaven. They were not called home, but God received them home.
Before we move to an example of stoning, let us look at one last facet of this; and that is the fact that there is no remission of sin without the shedding of blood.
Hebrews 9:22 (KJV)
22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. [2]
Now the sin of Achan, and the result as described in the book of Joshua. You may remember they were told to take nothing from the treasure of Jericho it was all to go to the Lord, but Achan took some things.
Joshua 6:19 (KJV)
19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.
Achan transgressed willfully the command of God.
Joshua 7:21 (KJV)
21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
One of the reasons that these sins are punished by complete removal has to do with the effect on others. The sin of Achan resulted in other persons being killed in combat that would not have died otherwise.
Joshua 22:20 (KJV)
20 Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.
The giving of seed to Molech involves the death of innocent life, the life of some of the most vulnerable in society. Satanic worship results in oppressions and possessions. This will have a terribly destructive effect on that person, those close to them, and even society.
TAKE HOME:
- Sin is a contagious force that spreads adversely touching innocent people.
- Sin can only be remitted by the shedding of blood and death. Jesus did that for us.
- Blaspheming the name of the Lord, which is lying about Him, is a sin punishable by death, no wonder we cringe when we hear this, what is all to common in society today.
