MAKE THE SCRIPTURE YOUR OWN

Greetings dear ones, we are honored to have you join this ongoing study of the 91st Psalm. It seems to me that many Christians have at least a passing acquaintance with this Psalm. Many invoked this Psalm during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is generally understood as a Psalm of protection from all evil. Who establishes and maintains this protection? As we have learned in the prior teachings, this protection is not automatic just by reading or quoting the Psalm? Well, once again let’s launch into our primary text.
Psalm 91:1-2 (KJV)
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Today I will spend some time talking about praying Scripture in the first person. His Words in our mouth. It is vital we not only believe the Words of God we find in Scripture but that we believe our words. Listen to Jesus.
Mark 11:22-24 (KJV)
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
In whom must we have faith? In whom must we be fully persuaded of His Word and character? Our Father God! When we believe God will back the words we speak to the obstacle before us, absent doubt. Additionally, we must believe it is done in the eternal, spiritual realm, when we pray, not when we see it manifest in this realm.
Back to praying in the first person using our primary Scripture as an example but first let’s review the following.
Joshua 1:7-9 (KJV)
7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Meditating on Scripture causes us to build faith, making it our words as well. Notice God is telling Joshua not to look to the right or left for that is demonic deception pulling our attention our of the light to the right or left. He tells Joshua to do “all the law”. Suppose that is still important? If our mouth is full of His Word, it cannot be full of another’s words. This constant mulling of the Word of God and not other words, lesser words, will cause us to walk in success. Success as God defines success. And yes that will include finances. We are again commanded, not giving it the college try, to be strong, to be courageous, to not be fearful, or get confused. Why? God is with us when we fulfil these criteria. We are in the secret place, behind the hedge, abiding in the shadow of the Almighty. Again, back to praying in the first person using our primary Scripture.
Psalm 91:1-2 (KJV)
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
This authors prayer in the first person of the text above.
Lord, I thank you for making a secret place for me to dwell, and that I am your shadow. I say you are my Lord, you are my refuge, you are my fortress, and my God. Lord, I trust you.
TAKE HOME:
- We must have faith, be fully persuaded, in God, in His Word, in His character. We cannot please Him without faith therefore we cannot be in the secret place without faith.
- We are to do all the Word of God we know and study to increase the Word of God that we know and do?
- Praying in the first person shows we have taken ownership and have made His Words our words and He will back it.
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
