Greetings precious saints of God and welcome back to this ongoing study of the 91st Psalm. This particular passage of Scripture has been widely recognized as a Psalm of protection. Protection from all that we need protection from. Like all other benefits in the Kingdom of God there are qualifiers. All of the benefits of the Kingdom are ours at Salvation. I am sure you figured out long ago nothing including salvation is automatic. This is really no different than a job you may have worked. Getting hired requires certain things and being eligible and receiving certain benefits once hired require certain things. First let’s review a little of our study text then the seven elements essential to being in the secret place of the Most High.
Psalm 91:1-2 (KJV)
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
The following is a list of requirements for “dwelling in the secret place”.
- Faith is necessary (Romans 10:17)
- Meditation of the Word the promise is needed (Joshua 1:8)
- We must focus on the promise (2 Corinthians 4:18)
- We must call it done before we see it (Romans 4:17-22)
- We must have knowledge (2 Peter 1:2-4)
- God has given us all things including His protection to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17)
- We must be free of sin (Ezekial 7:8,22)
Hopefully we all recognize that a change of thinking, a change to think like God, is at the core of coming to dwell in the secret place. Now, let’s jump into our primary Bible text for today continuing to explore the goodness of God.
Psalm 91:13-16 (KJV)
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
I will start with verse thirteen of our primary text. In the time the 91st Psalm, for that matter all before the Resurrection and the Day of Pentecost, was written people could resist Satan but did not have authority over him. We see this ability to resist, resist and rule over sin, not follow Satan’s suggestions, his pressure. Let’s look at the account of Cain and Abel in the KJV and NLT.
Genesis 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
God is talking to Cain about ruling over sin. I think other translations bring that forward a little more clearly.
Genesis 4:6 (NLT)
6 “Why are you so angry?” the LORD asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected?
7 You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”
Now in Christ Jesus not only can we rule over sin, which even the heathen can do, but we rule over the demons themselves.
Luke 10:19-20 (KJV)
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Do you do I believe verse nineteen? Let me point out a couple of things and then I will move on. In verse nineteen the first use of the word “power” is authority, and the second use is real power or ability. We have all authority in the earth so where does the power come from that makes the demons and all else comply? Same as Jesus!
John 14:10 (KJV)
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
So, let’s rejoice first of all that our names are written in Heaven and then walk in the knowledge and full confidence that we have full authority over demons, and the Father backs us up.
TAKE HOME:
- Before the Cross man could resist and dominate over sin but now not only sin but the demons. Why don’t we do it?
- Let us rejoice first of all with thanksgiving that our names are written in Heaven!
- We have “power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you”.
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
