VANQUISH FEAR

Greetings precious saints of God and welcome back to this ongoing study of the 91st Psalm. This particular passage of Scripture has been commonly recognized as a Psalm of protection. Protection from all that we need protection from. Like all other benefits in the Kingdom of God there are qualifiers. All of the benefits of the Kingdom are ours at Salvation. I am sure you figured out long ago nothing including salvation is automatic. This is really no different than a job you may have worked. Getting hired requires certain things and being eligible and receiving certain benefits once hired require certain things. The following is a list of requirements for “dwelling in the secret place”.
- Faith is necessary (Romans 10:17)
- Meditation of the Word the promise is needed (Joshua 1:8)
- We must focus on the promise (2 Corinthians 4:18)
- We must call it done before we see it (Romans 4:17-22)
- We must have knowledge (2 Peter 1:2-4)
- God has given us all things including His protection to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17)
- We must be free of sin (Ezekial 7:8,22)
Now, let’s jump into our primary Bible text and explore the goodness of God.
Psalm 91:1-8 (KJV)
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Every one of us must ask ourselves if we are in the “secret place” or are we exposed to our demonic enemies to one degree or another? I recently had a lengthy teaching pivoting from the following Scripture.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Is this our life or is this our Sunday morning thing? The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Remember, righteousness is right standing and right doing. From our Matthew 6:33 Scripture we see the phrase “his righteousness” which has to do with doing right His way. It is possible to do right but not His way or perhaps not in His timing. This, seeking first the Kingdom of God, of course is vital to entering and remaining in the secret place.
Being in the secret place of the most High and staying in the shadow of the Almighty is more a spiritual condition than a place in space and time. In that spiritual place we are warned by God of the tricks of the enemy and shielded from all disease. To have His full coverage we must without any doubt or question trust His Truth. Interestingly in verse four the word “shield” is like a hedge a prickly bush and a “buckler” is the idea of being completely surrounded. Did you notice this is at least double protection from all adversaries like only the Most High can do for those who are wholly His. Don’t you think this is worth pursuing? This brings us to the fifth verse.
Psalm 91:5 (KJV)
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
What is going to be the key for God’s protection against “the terror by night” and “the arrow that flieth by day”? This key, this qualifier, is a fundamental requirement of the children of God to walk in any kind of victory. Notice the command “Thou shalt not be afraid”. If we wait for the attack to threaten or be upon us to build faith and vanquish fear, we are a day late and a dollar short. Go back and review the seven-point list of what is necessary to be fully in God’s protective bubble and correct today whatever is not being done. The antonym of fear is assurance. We must be in 100% assurance of the character and the Word of God before the threat appears on the horizon or is suddenly in our face so to speak.
TAKE HOME:
- Are you in the secret place of the Most High, in the shadow of the Almighty?
- Are you seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness?
- Have you vanquished fear?
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
