A CERTAIN NOBLEMAN’S SON
Thursday – November 8, 2018, Cheshvan 30, 5779

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful faith building Bible Study from the Book of John. The featured picture today was taken at Coos Canyon a few years ago, a beautiful scenic spot. Now let’s get to our Bible Study starting with our primary text.
John 4:45-50 (KJV)
45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.
46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
Those of you who also follow the Health, Healing, and Miracles series which I publish on Sundays this account will be found in the 18 November 2018 edition as well. Jesus is back in Cana and a certain nobleman (important person) who lives in Jesus’ home town of Capernaum comes to Jesus on behalf of his son who is dying. The nobleman wants Jesus to come to his house and heal the boy. The boy, the son, is apparently near death. Jesus then makes a statement directly to the nobleman that on the surface seems offensive saying; “Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.” Now, we know that this nobleman has some level of faith for he has walked a great distance to find Jesus and bring Him to his home and the ill son. Perhaps the man has seen Jesus do signs and wonders elsewhere and his level of faith is that Jesus can do these things but does not have faith in the name or the Word he has heard. You will recall that it is important to not only believe that Jesus can and will but that the authority of His name and believing the Word spoken will bring a supernatural result. The nobleman asks yet again for Jesus to come with him and heal his son. The answer of Jesus and the response of the man is very instructive for that father and son and for each of us.
John 4:50 (KJV)
50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
You see the man had faith in Jesus but he did not have the level of faith necessary in the Word, the authority of the Words Jesus spoke for healing until this moment. Authority is connected to the name, this is why we speak the will of God in the name of Jesus. It is the authority of that name (we have the same name as well) that empowers the Words. A nonbeliever can say the same words we do and they will have no effect whereas our words spoken in faith not doubting will move mountains. Jesus tells him to go on home, the son is healed. The man believed the words that Jesus spoke and he started back home. Had he persisted in asking Jesus to come to the house the boy would have died. The leaving for home is the corresponding action that was necessary for the nobleman’s faith to work. Just like the ten lepers who were told to go show themselves to the priests, when they started they were healed, that going was the corresponding action. Now let’s take a look at the last few verses of this chapter and this account of faith and a miracle.
John 4:51-54 (KJV)
51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.
52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
It is about twenty miles from Cana to Capernaum. It appears from the account that the man stayed in Cana overnight for we see it is the next day when he meets one of his servants on the road. He did not rush (fear) right home to see if it was true, he believed Jesus and went home in a very normal fashion. This is a powerful lesson for us all. The faith of the father brought his whole house to believe on Jesus. Lord willing, I will pick up with chapter five tomorrow.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
