BEHOLD MY HANDS

Greeting’s sons and daughter of the Most High God and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog. The Lord bless you who diligently pursue the Lord, pursue Him to do His Holy Words. May He lead us, all of us, who walk in faith, powered of love, led of the Holy Spirit into all of the abundance of the Kingdom of God. Let us all be very aware that He, His Word, must be first in our lives in order to partake of the divine nature, all of the goodness of God. Otherwise, we leave varying degrees of His provision on the table that was fully ours. All things in the Kingdom of God, starting with salvation, are obtained by faith, powered of love (agape), and led of the Spirit of God. All things (spiritual and physical)! The featured picture today is to mirror and augment our text for today. We see the nail scared hands, but in addition we see the broken bread, and the goblet of wine. There is some debate about whether the nails or spikes were driven through the wrist or the hands of Jesus. The Scripture here in John and the other gospels uses the Greek word specific for the hands not the wrist. Furthermore, the Old Covenant Scripture uses a term specific for hand not wrist.
Psalm 22:16 (KJV)
16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
Our picture also shows the hands extended as in offering to you, and me (all of mankind) His broken body and shed precious Blood. Jesus is the bread of life and His body was broken for us. The wine represents the shed precious Blood of Jesus which cleanses us of all sin and gives us eternal life. Life, eternal life, is in the Blood. This is the Communion Table; it is His marriage proposal to us. He, Jesus, is the Bridegroom, we, the Church, are the bride of Christ (Messiah). Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text reading it aloud, yes, out loud.
John 20:26-28 (KJV)
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
As you will recall, this is the second appearance of Jesus to His disciples. It is the third appearance if you count His graveside chat with Mary Magdalene. On the same day as His Resurrection, He appeared in the midst of the disciples with entering through the locked doors or windows. Now eight days later we see a repeat of this supernatural event. I say supernatural event for there is no evidence that Jesus came into their midst by normal or natural means, that is to say, knocking on the door and then entering the room. We speculated a few days ago about where Jesus was during those eight days. I am not aware that we are given knowledge of that elsewhere in Scripture. At that time, I speculated that He was in Heaven with the Father. However, it may very well be that he made multiple appearances to any number of His disciples. On this particular day Thomas is with the others, presumably ten, and this encounter is recorded for our learning.
Upon appearing among them Jesus’ greeting is “Peace be unto you”. We have studied this word, spiritual fruit, spiritual force, of peace several times. It is not just a calm emotional state. In fact, like love (agape), and the other fruits of the spirit, there is no emotion connected with the spiritual fruit of peace. Emotion is a part of our soul and if we are not very careful the devils’ playground. Once Jesus has greeted the group He focuses (verse 27) upon Thomas. How does Jesus know what Thomas said (verse 25)? At this point Jesus has been fully restored as God, the second person of the co-equal Triune God. Even if not, He could have been operating by a gift of the Spirit, Word of Knowledge or Wisdom. Remember this incident early in the Ministry of Jesus when He is operating as an Anointed man. An example of the operation of the Gift of Knowledge in and through Jesus.
John 1:46-49 (KJV)
46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
