HONOR
Thursday – April 18, 2019, Nisan 13, 5779
Greetings dear friends and partners of Eastern Gate Ministries International, Inc. and The Three Minute Word publication and welcome back to this powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. If you are reading this on Facebook please take a moment and hit the “like” and “share” buttons to expand the reach of this ministry. As you honor the Lord, the Word of God, He will honor you. As we prepare for todays study let us purpose in our minds to be diligent and incorporate this into our thinking, words, and ways. When we do the Father will honor us just as He honored Jesus and of course the inverse is also true. I am not talking about a quick read with no real testing, reflection, meditation but a serious inquiry. Okay, now that we are ready let’s read our primary Bible text aloud.
John 8:54-56 (KJV)
54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
Our King James text translates from the Greek doxazō as honor however the predominate translation is glory (54 to 3). With that in mind let us look at the Amplified Translation which uses the word glory in its various forms.
John 8:54 (AMP)
54 Jesus answered, If I were to glorify Myself (magnify, praise, and honor Myself), I would have no real glory, for My glory would be nothing and worthless. [My honor must come to Me from My Father.] It is My Father Who glorifies Me [Who extols Me, magnifies, and praises Me], of Whom you say that He is your God.
The powerful message here is to not brag on ourselves but let our work, our lives, the presence and power of God flowing through us speak for itself and let the bragging about us come from others. This is an established principle even among the heathen. As we have been studying this Book of John, we have come across this before and Jesus now repeatedly points out to them that it is the Father who testifies of Him. He testifies of Jesus through the signs and wonders confirming the Word of God. If we will walk with Him, align with Him like Jesus did, the Father will do the same in our lives. Jesus again points out to them that they claim the same person as their God but they do not know Him, the Father (Jehovah). Before I move on, I want to spend just a little time on the word glorify or glory. Most of the meaning of the word can be gleaned from the text of the Amplified Translation. Beyond that, coexistent with those words, is the idea of a very apparent manifestation or demonstration of the goodness of God through a person or in a place. The glory of God is the manifest goodness of God which can be clearly appreciated by the human senses. God honored the Word in the ministry of Jesus and others by the manifestation of various miracles. Let us think on the following verses.
Mark 16:19-20 (KJV)
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
The Lord confirms the Word not you and me!
Acts 10:38 (KJV)
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
We have the very same Anointing (the Holy Spirit) that was upon and in Jesus. We also are to go about doing good and healing all for God is with us also. All were healed in the ministry of Jesus who had faith. Faith is what pleases God and puts one in position to receive of God, for God to flow through, or to move at their word (Word of God). Whatever is not of faith is sin. As we proceed forward with verse fifty-five, we know why Jesus was not in the diplomatic corps. Jesus tells them they do not know the Father even though they are talking about the same person. Jesus tells them He knows the Father but they do not and therefore are liars. They are so deceived that they do not know they are lying but anything that is not the truth is a lie. In verse fifty-one Jesus tells them that the only way to escape death is to “keep my saying” and now we see that they and we are to “keep his saying”. Again, recall that Jesus only said what the Father said, only did what the Father did, and relied upon (had unwavering faith) the Father to do the works. Therefore, the sayings of Jesus and the Father are identical and originated with the Father. Is this our pattern or do we just spout off the way we feel any old time?

Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
