I HAVE FINISHED THE WORK

Greetings to all who have come to this blog and welcome to this Holy Spirit directed Bible Study of the Book of John. Please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as you possibly can to expand our reach, to expand the reach of the Truth. The featured picture today is a vintage 1947 photo of the Riverside School House in Pittsfield, Maine. We all seem to act and think like the status quo is what we will have forever. Not so dear ones. Let us seek everyday to redeem (make the best use of our time) our time.
Ephesians 5:15-17 (KJV)
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
This life will soon be over whether Jesus comes in our lifetime or not and after that the judgment. Have you, have I, given any thought to the coming judgment? Now, let’s focus our attention upon our primary text and read it aloud, yes, out loud.
John 17:4-6 (KJV)
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
Jesus is in the final hours of His Ministry in the earth and will very soon be on the Cross. Jesus is praying, talking to His Heavenly Father. He is confident that He has shown forth the goodness, the glory, of the Father. He is speaking with a fulness of faith. Do we talk to our Heavenly Father with the same confidence (faith)? Anything less is not pleasing to the Father. Our Father is not looking for mealy mouthed, insecure, or timid children. Jesus is telling the Father that He has, not that He hoped He has, shown the goodness (glorified) of the Father in the earth.
The very fact of Jesus’ presence in the earth is the ultimate demonstration of the goodness of God (Triune co-equal God) for all eternity, past, present, and future. This is a demonstration of love (agape) beyond compare in all of eternity. God did not need a Savior but we sure did! Remember, love (agape) is selflessness, obeying the Word, and honoring Blood Covenant. This is a selfless act beyond compare. We hear of people in war or other circumstances who throw themselves into harms way for another. However, this is God leaving Heaven to come as a man into the earth to be rejected and die a very cruel and slow death. He would first die spiritually and then experience physical death. We have a good, good Father beyond compare, and we have a good beyond compare brother (Jesus) the first born from the dead. Listen to what the Apostle John, the Apostle of love, wrote by the unction of the Holy Spirit.
1 John 3:1 (KJV)
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Jesus, the Word, was the only begotten Son of God, the first begotten from the dead, but now the Father has many sons. You and I are a part of that wonderful family.
Revelation 1:5 (KJV)
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
Oh, what a Savior! Jesus goes on in the latter part of verse four of our primary Bible text to say that He has finished the work He was given to do. Let’s think about this for a bit. In time, this is before the Cross, His descent into Hell, His preaching in the Bosom of Abraham, or the Resurrection and the presentation of His Blood to the Father at the Mercy Seat of Heaven. The main reason He came was to destroy the works of the devil and that has not yet, in time, been accomplished. As I finish for today let’s take a moment to review the work that Jesus was given to do.
1 John 3:8 (KJV)
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (Bold added)
John 10:10 (KJV)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (Bold added)
Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV)
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (Bold added)
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow. I want to take a moment as I have ended this teaching to remind everyone to prepare for the November elections. Know the platforms of the two parties. Get voter guides from good Christian sources. The choices this time are as stark as at any time in our lifetimes between light and dark, good and evil. Choose the light of Scripture and God’s Word concerning what is good.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus name! Quit asking God to bless you, you are already blessed, you have the Blessing, give Him something to do by the words of your mouth. Once you know the will of God, decree the thing (Job 22:28, Isaiah 45:11, Mark 11:23). (The Blessing is the Holy Spirit) We have left God way to long with nothing to do in our lives.
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
