Greetings dear ones and welcome to a new Bible Study of the Bible Book of James. As is my usual approach we will go verse by verse and sometimes word by word. I see this book of the Bible as a rather plain spoken and practical book. This book was thought to be one of the earliest New Testament Books and written by James often incorrectly referred to as a half-brother of Jesus. Joseph and (the virgin) Mary are the natural parents of James, born into the same family as Jesus. This is not James one of the original disciples then Apostles, a son of Zebedee. A half brother or sister has one half of the genetic code of one parent in common with another half brother or sister. The offspring of one woman but two different men would be half brothers or sister and likewise one father but two different women. For James to be a half brother he and Jesus would have to have either Mary’s or Joseph’s genetic code. This of course would have disqualified Him to be our Savior since all flesh following the sin of Adam was corrupted.

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
1 Corinthians 15:22 (KJV)
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
Jesus was not born with a sin nature and went to the Cross a sinless man to pay the debt of Adam.
Luke 1:35 (KJV)
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
The Father Himself prepared a physical body for the dwelling place of the Second Person of the Trinity. This is much like God preparing a physical body for Adam and breathing of Himself into that body. Jesus’ body did not come from the earth however which was and is cursed.
Hebrews 10:5 (KJV)
5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
Jesus, known as The Word or Lord of Hosts in the Old Testament, put aside all that made Him God and entered the body prepared for Him.
Philippians 2:7-8 (KJV)
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
And thus, the Words of God in the mouths of the Prophets became flesh in the womb of Mary, a creative miracle. The soul/spirit of The Word minus His God attributes entered this perfect flesh and He was born as other men. Some may be wondering what the attributes of God are that He shed. The main three are omniscience (all knowing), omnipresence (present in all places at once), and omnipotence (all powerful).

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Now back to James. James was also called James the Just was a Bishop and leader of the Jerusalem Church. It is thought that this book was written between 48 and 62 AD. According to the Jewish Historian Josepheus he was martyred in 62 AD. For refusing to deny Jesus as the Messiah, he was thrown from the pinnacle of the Temple then stoned and clubbed to death.
TAKE HOME:
- James was born into the same family as Jesus however they were not connected genetically. DNA testing today of the blood of Jesus would have found no antecedent genealogy. I suspect His DNA would have matched Adams’ DNA before sin.
- Jesus was born a man, did not operate as God, and did not have a fallback position of God.
- James died a martyrs death.
