MORE LIGHT AND DARKNESS
Thursday – July 11, 2019, Tamuz 8, 5779
Greetings to all and welcome back to this in-depth Bible Study of the Book of John. Our Lord, our God is the only living God and is so merciful and so gracious to us all, saint and sinner alike. John 11:9-14 (KJV)
9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
11 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
Yesterday I left off talking about verses nine and ten and how Jesus is using a physical example to demonstrate a spiritual or supernatural Truth. We know this with a certainty due to the reference to “no light in him” found in verse ten. In this world there is external natural light and the only “light” within is darkness which increases stumbling and deceptions. This natural light is dark knowledge without the light of the Scripture and teaching of the Holy Spirit, and dark spiritual knowledge is of the enemy of our soul and is death. Now let’s deal with verse ten more directly. The A portion or first half of the verse is referring to the darkness (spiritual) that pervades in the world and will always lead to stumbling. It always leads to stumbling because it is a perversion of the Truth, it is designed to bring stealing, killing, and destroying into our lives and take us into Hell. It is essential for us to eliminate darkness (everything not of Truth) as quickly as possible and replace it with light which is the thoughts, words, and actions of God. Having a mixture in our lives will yield the same result as no light which is stealing, killing, and destroying, think Garden of Eden and the Day of Sin and Death. Adam and Eve were walking in pure spiritual light until they bought into the lies of the Serpent. They mixed the knowledge of good with evil and it brought death and the remainder of the curse (corruption leading to death) into their lives and the whole created order.
The latter part or the B portion of verse ten tells us that the reason for the stumbling is because there is no light within the person. The other side of that coin is that light in the person would prevent stumbling. We, the Church, the body of Christ (Anointing), in the earth are in a world full of darkness which is to say that the world system is absent for the most part the thoughts, words, and ways of God. The light of God is His thoughts, His Words, and His ways which illuminates the darkness exposing the snares the enemy has laid for us all. Many places in the Bible give the example of lighting a path.
Job 22:28 (KJV)
28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
When we speak the Word of God (light) decreeing a thing (speaking words), the thing (those words) will be established and the path of that establishment is illuminated by the same Word, the light of Heaven.
Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Here we see that the Word of God itself is the light, it is the lamp, remember that the lamp is Christ Jesus. When we think, talk, and do the Word our path is brilliantly illuminated and stumbling is eliminated. Going our own way, the way of the world is nothing but trouble. The way of the world may look fine at first but will eventually bring sorrow.
Proverbs 4:18 (KJV)
18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
Here we see that our path itself is as the light, our path is observed by others and brings light to them if they will receive it. So, what can we say about this light within, where is it within? This light is in our spirit, that area of our nonmaterial self (spiritual self) where eternal life exists and is given constant life by the Holy Spirit. The other area is our soul which is where we find the mind, will, and emotions. We must constantly be renewing our minds, so that we have more and more light, so that we think, talk, and act more and more like Jesus, like our Heavenly Father. Now, that Jesus is in Heaven we are the light of the world, we have special knowledge, light, life giving light.
Matthew 5:14 (KJV)
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
