Sunday – December 31, 2023, Tevet 19, 5784
Happy New Years Eve to all especially those of the household of faith in Christ Jesus. Enjoy today, this evening and New Years Day tomorrow but don’t let the heathen traditions mar or obliterate the wonder of a new season with endless supernatural possibilities. Let us all present ourselves before the Lord inquiring of the One who lives within as to what adjustments need to be made for Him. Welcome back to this interesting study of the Bible Book of Philemon. This is a book of love, faith, intercession, and restoration. We have completed this one-chapter Book as of last Sunday but today I wanted to bring a few things (there are many more) to our attention concerning intercession. Before we delve into our primary Bible text for this Sunday, please take a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible. One last thing, don’t forget my newest book Awake, Arise, and Triumph – Be Love as a wonderful New Years gift for someone. Use the following link to purchase now: https://amzn.to/3MVTysq
Again, invitation is always open for those who God calls to financially partner with this ministry. You can go to our website (link below) and examine our beliefs and mission. You can give the old-fashioned way or electronically on the website. We are a 501©3.
Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in this wonderful Book of Philemon.
Philemon 1:10 (KJV)
10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:
Throughout Scripture there are many types and shadows which is when one account foreshadows another. In the case of this Book of Philemon we see this very thing. Think of the Apostle Paul in this Book as representing Jesus who is our Intercessor, our High Priest. Think of Philemon as the Father and Onesimus as us. Now go back through the chapter with this in mind and I think you will see things not seen on first pass. Jesus is our intercessor or advocate.
Romans 8:34 (KJV)
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Hebrews 7:25 (KJV)
25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Jesus stands between us and the Father. Let’s look at an example Jesus gave.
Luke 13:1-5 (KJV)
1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
This is the beginning of Jesus’ teaching on the vital role of intercession. The Scriptures above answer at least in part the question of why bad things happen to “good” people. The answer if you are searching for it is unrepented sin. Now listen as Jesus continues.
Luke 13:6-9 (KJV)
6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
An intercessor cannot protect another indefinitely but can for a season perhaps a lengthy season. The better answer is for us, each one of us, to be sensitive to our thoughts, words, and actions and repent immediately of ALL sin. The thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy has no entrance into a sinless life. Get off your false humility horse of everybody sins. Jesus didn’t sin and He said we didn’t have to either (John 14:12).
I hope you have found this brief study of the Book of Philemon interesting but more importantly instructive, life changing. Lord willing, I will return with fresh revelation from the Throne next Sunday, next year.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
