MY LORD AND MY GOD

Greeting’s sons and daughter of the Most High God and welcome back to The Three Minute Word blog. The Lord bless you who diligently pursue the Lord, pursue Him to do His Holy Words. May He lead us, all of us, who walk in faith, powered of love, led of the Holy Spirit into all of the abundance of the Kingdom of God. Let us all be very aware that He, His Word, must be first in our lives to be a partaker of the divine nature, all of the goodness of God. Otherwise, we leave varying degrees of His provision on the table of that which was fully ours. All things in the Kingdom of God, starting with salvation, are obtained by faith, powered of love (agape), and led of the Spirit of God. All things (spiritual and physical)! Our featured picture today is an artist depiction of Jesus appearing in the midst of His disciples in a most unusual way. Jesus does not appear to have entered through the door but was suddenly seen standing among them. Any way you cut it; this is a supernatural event. Yesterday I left off in the middle of Jesus confronting His disciple Thomas (Apostle Thomas) concerning His unbelief. Of course, the same charge applies to them all. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text reading it aloud, yes, out loud.
John 20:26-28 (KJV)
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Thomas has examined Jesus’ hands and side and exclaims “My Lord and my God.” Implicit in Thomas’ statement is that He recognizes Jesus now not only as Lord but as God. How did He know that? The word ‘Lord’ from our text is the Greek word transliterated as kyrios meaning supreme in authority according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Jesus is the Head of the Church, the One from whom all instruction is to come to each of us individually and to the body (Church) of Christ corporately. This instruction comes primarily from the Word of God. Just to be clear, we are not puppets, we are not automatons, we are not controlled forcibly by God, and we are not controlled by God through manipulation or other deceptions. Contrary to popular, but very wrong belief, God is not in control of our individual lives. Anyone who has had children or been in charge of a group of people, know that having authority and being in control are two very separate issues. We were made as freewill beings in the likeness and image of God and that will always be so. The word ‘God’ from our text is the transliterated Greek word theos meaning the supreme Divinity according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. I thought it most interesting that the definition of this word God is ‘supreme Divinity’. This leaves room for others with divinity of lesser stature. Well dear ones just who do you think those others might be? You and me! Let’s move forward in our study.
John 20:29-31 (KJV)
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Just how might we interpret verse twenty-nine. Jesus has already told Thomas that He is faithless now He is saying that he is not blessed. Wow, I sure don’t want to hear anything even close to this from my Savior. This is not the first time the disciples have heard this from Jesus.
Luke 8:25 (KJV)
25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
Sometimes we forget or overlook the fact that every coin has two sides, likewise every statement has two sides. Let’s examine the following statement. “Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” Having to see first is not faith and it removes the activity of the Blessing from our lives. The Blessing belongs to those who believe by faith (call things that be not as though they are).
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
2 Chronicles 20:20b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Until our next publication, as your Bible Teacher and a Prophetic Voice in your life I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it, believe it, and speak over yourself and your family by faith in Jesus’ name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
