Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. It is hump day and once again we are prepared to receive the Word of God. This means I have made a choice to make this part of my thinking not as a resource of facts in my mind but as who I am because it is who He is. I have made a choice that this will govern my thinking, my words, and my actions going forward, in Jesus name. Amen
Colossians 2:6-9 (KJV)
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Some may be thinking; when will this guy leave this alone and move on? Quite frankly I move on when the Holy Spirit allows me to move on directing me to other or new ideas. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The more we hear the Word of God the better we can hear the Word of God.
Romans 10:17 (KJV)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Faith is fundamental to pleasing the Father and fundamental to victory. Faith is simply a belief in God and an unwavering belief of God.
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
1 John 5:4 (KJV)
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Our faith must be born of God, it must be in God, and in His Word. Our faith must not be in our own reasoning, the philosophy of the world, or the traditions of men which have zero power of God. Now, let’s return our attention to verse nine in our primary text.
Colossians 2:8-9 (KJV)
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
The word ‘Christ’ in verse eight in referring to The Anointed One, and the One who brought the Holy Spirit back into the earth as witnessed on the Day (Feast) of Pentecost as recorded in Acts Chapter Two. You might ask, “When did the Holy Spirit leave?”
Genesis 3:8 (KJV)
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
The phrase “the cool of the day” would more properly reflect a rushing wind (like on the day of Pentecost). There was no heat or cool of the day in the Garden of Eden. Back to our text. The ‘him’ in verse nine should be capitalized and refers to Jesus, The Anointed One, the One who paved the way for the Holy Spirit to reenter the earth, legally.
In him, meaning in Jesus, dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. The word ‘bodily’ is referring to a physical body, yes, Jesus today in Heaven at the right hand of Majesty on High has a physical body which is eternal, incorruptible.
Luke 24:36-39 (KJV)
36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Yes, Jesus has flesh and bones and so shall we when our bodies are made incorruptible (eternal).
1 Corinthians 15:51-54 (KJV)
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
What a wonderful hope we have been given. Bible hope is not like worldly hope which is maybe, maybe not. Bible hope is a promise, a future event which is certain as we walk in faith, motivated or powered by love, focused on the hope. Tomorrow I will again address the phrase “the fullness of the Godhead”.
