Greetings from Eastern Gate Ministries International and The Three Minute Word publications. I pray “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him”. We have been studying about the Spirit of wisdom and revelation and came to understand that this is the Holy Spirit of God Himself. We have the benefit of The Teacher when we choose to increase in the knowledge of Him, the Lord, His thoughts, His Words, and His ways.
Ephesians 1:16-18 (KJV)
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
As we found last week this is a common prayer by the Apostle Paul and other writers like the Apostle Peter. Remember we are the ones that control, have control of the gas pedal so to speak, concerning our knowledge of Him. As we decide, choose, to increase in knowledge of Him, not just as information, but with the intent of living according to that knowledge “the spirit of wisdom and revelation” becomes increasingly active as our teacher. Perhaps we have had Him on a part-time, intermittent status in the past, but now let us choose to be in maturing mode day in and day out with the Teacher uncovering (revelation) previously unseen or unappreciated things and showing us the best use of the information (wisdom). Look at what Paul said to the folks at Colossae and Laodicea.
Colossians 1:9-11 (KJV)
9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
I think we can clearly see the same theme being expressed by the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul to this Church at Ephesus. This is important to God and especially to us for it is the crux of our success or failure of our mission in the Kingdom of God. By the way, our mission is not to hang on by the skin of our teeth, allowing the devil to kill us, then burst into Heaven having been exhausted, broke, and full of sickness and disease moments earlier. This is not a good plan (the only plans God has are good), look at the following verse and see whose plan we would fulfil with the preceding scenario.
John 10:10 (KJV)
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Paul was praying that the folks at Colossae and Laodicea would “be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding”. Sounds pretty much like Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians and Peter’s exhortation in the book of Second Peter. Why did these Apostles think this was important? The purpose of our pursuit of the knowledge of God with the intent, the mission, to increase in wisdom, spiritual understanding, and revelation, and to use that increase of maturity in accomplishing the mission God has given to us in the earth. Look at verse ten (ten is the number of responsibility, our responsibility).
Colossians 1:10 (KJV)
10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Jesus has made us worthy but I suspect we are not always pleasing to the Lord. This pursuit of Him, the knowledge of Him, wisdom, revelation, spiritual understanding and the God directed use of this information is very satisfying to our Heavenly Father and furthers the Kingdom of God. It furthers the destruction of the works of the devil. We are Ambassadors, reconcilers, and the Father wants everyone reconciled to Him by One Christ Jesus. Keeping people in spiritual prison is the work of the devil, our work is show them a far better way, a far better Kingdom. Then we find in verse eleven that effective use of the Knowledge of God brings increasing power of God into our lives for the accomplishment of our mission.
Colossians 1:11 (KJV)
11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
