PENTECOST
Tuesday – May 30, 2017
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from Patti and me publishers of The Three Minute Word. God is so good. Today at sundown (6 pm) is the start of the Feast of the Lord called Pentecost. The word ‘Pentecost’ has to do with the number fifty. The Feast of Pentecost is the fourth of the four spring feasts of the Lord and is fifty days after the Feast of Firstfruits or seven weeks after the 16th of Nisan which is the second day of Passover or Unleavened Bread. This Feast of the Lord is also called the Feast of Weeks being seven (spiritual completion) weeks counting from the 17th of Nisan (day Jesus was resurrected from the dead – a day of victory [#17]).
Leviticus 23:15-21 (KJV)
15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:
16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.
17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.
18 And ye shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year, and one young bullock, and two rams: they shall be for a burnt offering unto the LORD, with their meat offering, and their drink offerings, even an offering made by fire, of sweet savour unto the LORD.
19 Then ye shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings.
20 And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits for a wave offering before the LORD, with the two lambs: they shall be holy to the LORD for the priest.
21 And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
The first Pentecost was when Moses ascended Mount Sinai and received the Law, including the Ten Commandments, directly from God and was show the pattern of the Tabernacle. This first Pentecost was fifty days after the departing of a mixed multitude (Hebrews and non-Hebrews) from Egypt. The Law was designed to show the need for and lead us to Christ (Galatians 3:24). The coming of Christ was essential for the restoration of all things including the bringing of the Blessing (Holy Spirit) back in the earth for all persons who would follow the only true and living God (declare Jesus as Lord and Savior). As an aside let me point out that many have declared Jesus as Savior but very few have made Him Lord. Romans the tenth chapter clearly tells us Jesus is to be both Savior (rescue from destruction [hell]) and Lord (the One of supreme authority in our lives). This is important because Jesus as Savior will take us to Heaven but it will be a miserable ride getting there if He is not Lord.
Okay, back to the Feast of Pentecost also called the Feast of Weeks. Remember that Jesus by His sacrifice and resurrection has restored all things. Jesus is the number seven, He is spiritual perfection, and returned that same capacity to mankind. The coming, the life and ministry, and the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus the Messiah, the Anointed One were all empowered by the Holy Spirit who is the number fifty. The Holy Spirit empowered Jesus (Hebrews 9:14) to make the payment for sin, and the Holy Spirit delivers the goods (benefits) of that payment with our agreement. When we declare Jesus as Lord and Savior He immediately quickens or makes alive our dead soul and we are again a living soul.
When we see or hear a reference to the number fifty there are three things that should enter our thinking immediately. One of course is this Feast that I am about to discuss further. The other is that fifty is the number of Jubilee. Third the number fifty is a number of The Holy Spirit. Let’s take a moment to look at the idea of jubilee and I think we will all understand how this all fits together.
Leviticus 25:8-13 (KJV)
8 And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.
9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.
10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
11 A jubile shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed.
12 For it is the jubile; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field.
13 In the year of this jubile ye shall return every man unto his possession.
Does this sound just a little familiar except it is talking about years and not weeks? Notice the number seven (seventh month) referencing spiritual completion but we also see the number ten (tenth day) the number of responsibility, our responsibility. Be aware that the tenth day of the seventh month is also a Feast of the Lord known as The Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur (Leviticus 23:27). Jesus provided the reality of spiritual completion but it is our responsibility to accept it and walk it out. We walk it out with our thought life, our words, and actions led of the Holy Spirit who will at our command make every bit of the Kingdom of God a present reality. All that Adam was and possessed is returned to the believers except we have the safety net of being in Christ Jesus. We have been returned to the family of God. We have our responsibilities but the toil of life (sweat of the brow) should be no more for the believer. How far have we fallen brother and sister, how dark is our understanding?
I realize this is a long teaching and really very superficial but necessary to our understanding and the reality in which we live. The understanding of who we are in Christ Jesus does not start in Matthew or John but in Genesis. When sin entered mankind the Holy Spirit, the Blessing, left the earth having no legal standing with mankind.
Genesis 3:8 (KJV)
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
The phrase rendered as “in the cool of the day” is incorrect. The proper meaning of the Hebrew here is a wind (perhaps a rushing wind). Think about it the environment before sin was perfect, there was no heat of the day or cool of the day, it was always perfect. This rushing wind is the Holy Spirit exiting the earth with the Holy Angels. But praise the Lord He returned when Jesus had paid the price giving Him legal access back into the earth available to all persons.
Acts 2:1-4 (KJV)
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
O thank you, thank you, thank you Jesus, thank you Father, thank you Holy Spirit of God.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
