SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES
Thursday – July 13, 2017

God is so good! Just look at that early morning shot here in Maine, the beauty of this creation. I am sure each of you have wonderful beauty around about you as well. You will see it much quicker if you look for it. Welcome back to our Bible Study from the wonderful Bible Book of Hebrews. The Word of God is the Policy and Procedure Manual for optimal operation in the Kingdom of God. Jesus said that the Kingdom of God was like a pearl of great price. Why do you suppose that we do not value the Word and our place in the Kingdom of God much more highly? Are we so carnal, so focused on what we can see, hear, tough, taste, or smell, that we have no appreciation of the far greater value of the spiritual realm? The Word of God is spirit, spiritual. The Word of God spoken by the leadership of the Holy Spirit has no equal. Now let’s again consider our primary text.
Hebrews 2:4 (KJV)
4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
We have been discussing in some detail that it is the will of God that we speak the Anointed Word of God manifesting a lifestyle of signs and wonders, miracles, and displays of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We must operate in the specific will of God for us at the moment and not the general overarching will of God for His people as a whole. Knowing the will of God in the general sense as discussed and displayed in Scripture is the foundation to judge if the voice speaking is God the Holy Spirit asking us to do a specific thing. Now let’s turn our attention to our secondary text.
Mark 16:15-20 (KJV)
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
I will now pick up with the latter aspect of Mark 16:17. As believers go into all the world making known the good news of the Kingdom of God there will be signs that follow. By contrast these signs will not follow the unbeliever. It would appear by simple observation that there is a truck load of unbelief. When I use the word ‘unbelief’ in this context I am not referring to someone who is not saved. They are saved, with faith for salvation but not for the signs and wonders, the miracles, and manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps we don’t really believe we can cast out a devil and we really would rather not get the attention of one. Devils are 100% bark and 0% bite. So far as getting their attention, you and I are the fulltime assignment of several devils every minute of every day.
So, what about this tongues business? New tongues or speaking in tongues is the initial evidence or manifestation of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We first saw it at Pentecost after the Resurrection of Christ.
Acts 2:1-4 (KJV)
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 10:44-46 (KJV)
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Acts 19:6 (KJV)
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Notice that the Holy Spirit came or fell upon them or they were filled and they all spoke or spake (old English) with tongues. Other tongues are a language known to God but not to the speaker. The other thing that is notable is that when we are saved (born again) the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within (breath of life) and quickens our dead spirit. So, with the baptism also called being filled with the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit who is already resident fills us totally and overflows us. That overflow means that we are covered in the Anointing Power of God, the Holy Spirit. Until one is filled with the Holy Spirit they are without Power. This means that persons who are not saved, and persons who are saved but not filled with the Holy Spirit have the same capacity for signs and wonders, miracles, and the demonstration of gifts of the Holy Spirit in their lives which is zero. However, a born-again person filled with the Holy Spirit in obedience to God has the same capacity as God. That capacity is not independent of God but in concert with God. I will pick-up with this again tomorrow.
Until our next publication, I speak blessing into your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Numbers 6:24-26 (KJV)
24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
