OH, THE BLOOD!
Wednesday – August 22, 2018, Elul 11, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful faith building Bible Study from the Book of Hebrews. We are talking about the Blood, the blood of innocent animals and then the precious Blood of Jesus, without which we would be making Hell our home. Our God is so good, so wonderful, so patient, and so merciful. How someone can reject Him is now beyond me but there was a time I rejected Him and in effect spit in His face. Thank you, Jesus, for answering the prayers of those in the earth who loved me. Thank you for those that had prayed and went on to Heaven yet their prayers lived and you were faithful to answer. And thank you for your provision, your extraordinary sacrifice, and great mercy which I did not deserve. Now, let’s review our primary Bible text by reading it aloud and then diving back into our study.
Hebrews 13:20-22 (KJV)
20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
22 And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.
As you will recall, I am reviewing the trail of blood from the Garden of Eden to the Mercy Seat in Heaven today. As the Bible account continues we find out that blood is the life of the flesh or body and it makes atonement for the soul. The blood of innocent spotless animals under the Old Covenant is looking forward to the Blood of Jesus which will restore immortality to the flesh and eternal life to the soul. Crucial in all of this is our ability to hear and communicate with God which requires a living spirit. Immediately following the Day of Sin and Death in the Garden of Eden God provides the short-term fix for sin which was the blood of innocent animals.
Genesis 3:21 (KJV)
21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
Twenty-one is the Bible number of exceeding sinfulness of sin. Because of sin innocent blood was required first that of animals until the final solution could come. Animal blood could not restore immortality to the flesh and it could not redeem the soul restoring eternal life but it was a surrogate awaiting Blood that would make all the difference. Failure to follow the Sacrificial Law established in the Garden and later codified by Moses is what got Cain in trouble. The surrogate blood of animals was accepted by God until Calvary, which was the last Passover. The saints, those who believed God and those who followed the Law, were provided a place in Abraham’s Bosom or Paradise. This was a purgatory of sorts, a place where they (their dead spirit man) awaited the Messiah.
Some two-thousand years after the Day of Sin and Death in the Garden of Eden God finally found a man with whom He could make covenant. That man was Abram later renamed by God Abraham. Abram means high father whereas Abraham means father of a multitude. This blood covenant would culminate at Calvary providing legal access for God back into the earth bringing salvation, full restoration, and more to mankind.
Galatians 4:4-7 (KJV)
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Is it possible to give too much thanks to God given what He has done for us? I think the answer is a resounding NO! We are sons just as Adam was a son. Unlike Adam we have a safety net and His name is Christ Jesus. This means we are not subject to the Law of Sin and Death. We have placed ourselves under Grace in Christ Jesus (Romans Six). The surrogate blood of animals detailed in Genesis fifteen initiated this most important of Blood Covenants culminated at Calvary with the Blood of redemption. That same Blood is now on the Mercy Seat of Heaven validating our Salvation. Our risen Savior is now restored as God, we are kings and He is our King, we are priests and He is our High Priest. Lord willing, I will move forward in our text tomorrow. God is so good!
Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
Ephesians 3:14-17 (KJV)
14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
