BY FAITH MOSES PARENTS WERE NOT AFRAID
Friday – May 11, 2018, Iyar 26, 5778

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderfully powerful study of faith. It is only wonderful and powerful if it is received, believed, decreed, believe the decree as received, and acted upon. Let’s each of us determine in our hearts that we are going to be diligent about the Word of God, building our faith, and getting about the Father’s business. Today I am moving forward in our primary text and delving into the life of Moses. Let’s read this text together and aloud.
Hebrews 11:23-25 (KJV)
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
You are likely well aware of this Bible account when a decree was given in Egypt to kill the male children born to the Hebrews however Moses’ parents defied the will of Pharaoh. Our Scripture above tells us that Moses’ parents were not afraid. They did not put him in the bulrushes because they were afraid but as led of the Spirit (Blessing) of God. Fear would have gotten Moses killed.
Exodus 1:15-17 (KJV)
15 And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
The midwives helping with the birthing process defied secular law and obeyed spiritual law. This of course is not the only example of this in Scripture. We are under no obligation to obey a manmade law that violates Scripture. Other well-known examples are Daniel and the three Hebrew children. So, in the next passage we witness the birth of Moses.
Exodus 2:1-4 (KJV)
1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.
3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.
4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.
The text above does not tell us his parents motivation other than to save their child. Our Hebrew text makes it clear these parents were operating in faith, faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They hid him at home until the Holy Spirit (Blessing) led them to put him in this little boat where the Pharaohs’ daughter would come to bath. As our featured picture depicts she saw the child (Moses), God had prepared her heart (Favor or Grace of God) and she loved him taking him into the palace and raising him. As we consider this situation with Moses it seems that his true heritage was not hidden from him by this woman. As we follow the account of Moses it is self-evident he was aware of his Hebrew heritage, that he was not Egyptian. It does not appear she or he knew who the parents were although his mother did participate in his nurturing. Know that the sister (of Moses) who stood afar off is Miriam and we don’t see her again until the fifteenth chapter of Exodus.
Exodus 2:7-10 (KJV)
7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?
8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.
9 And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.
10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.
The name Moses means the one who draws out. Moses is the one who years later will draw his people, the Hebrews, out of bondage, out of Egypt. Lord willing, I will continue the story of Moses as highlighted from our text in the Book of Hebrews on Monday. Until our next publication, I speak this Scriptural prayer for your life right now, receive it in the name of Jesus, confess it, and walk it out with thanksgiving.
3 John 1:2 (AMP)
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers.
