THE TRUTH MAKES FREE
Friday – September 21, 2018, Tishrei 12, 5779
Greetings and welcome back to this wonderfully powerful Bible Study from the Book of John. It is my prayer that as you prayerfully and diligently follow and study you will be strengthened mightily. The Kingdom of God is in dire need of men and women who honor the Covenant and do exploits.
Daniel 11:32 (KJV)
32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
Is it clear to everyone reading this that if we are not doing exploits we do not know our God, that we are weak, are corrupted by the traditions of men, and the doctrines of demons? Is this how we want to be known? Are we known as people that have corrupted the Covenant, don’t know our God but worship another Jesus, and are weak (without the flow of the Power of God)? Precious brother and sister all of this is very serious business, our wealthy place in God is in the Word. I am not talking only about physical wealth but wealth (absence of poorness) in every area of our lives. The blood Covenant of bulls, calves, goats, and lambs brought financial wealth and health to the peoples of that Covenant. We have a far greater Covenant yet it remains untouched for the most part. Are we slackers? Let us now read our primary text aloud.
John 1:14-16 (KJV)
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
If Jesus, the Word, was full of the truth it is something we need to understand and make it one of our goals to be full of the truth. As you will recall, the truth has at least four aspects which are the Word of God, Holy Spirit of God, Jesus (the Word), and Love. It is a little off topic but I want to bring something to mind for you because Holy Spirit just brought it to my mind.
Genesis 15:1 (KJV)
1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
Jeremiah 13:8 (KJV)
8 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
These are but two examples that I wanted to bring forward. We know that the Word is the one we now call Jesus. So, the Word (Jesus who is the living voice of God) came unto these men and many many others to this very day. Jesus, the Word, is the mouth, the voice of God. Ok, now back to the truth. First let’s look at the Word of God as truth. This is the Word of God spoken by a living voice not Jesus the Word.
John 17:17 (KJV)
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
So, the Word and the Truth are synonymous. The Word of God is the absolute Truth without darkness. Let me point out one thing that is important to all peoples reading the Word of God. Not all that is in the Bible are the Words of God. Some are the words of wicked people, good people in deception or having a corrupted gospel, and the very voice of devils. Always know who is talking and who they are talking too as you read and study the Bible. In the preceding verse we see that the Word of God, the Truth is a sanctifying agent in our lives. To be sanctified is to purify, consecrate, and make holy. We are to be holy as God is holy and yes that is possible and necessary. The Word of God to our soul (mind – thoughts, words, and actions) is like water to our natural body cleansing it. The Word of God, the Truth, makes us ready and sets us apart for His use. That is the cry of our hearts. When we are done spinning our wheels and doing our own thing, let’s try doing His thing and find real satisfaction. The following passage is similar to the preceding verse.
John 8:31-32 (KJV)
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
The Truth produces or makes freedom not bondage, anything less leaves us in bondage. The prerequisite is that we know the Truth, not a corrupted version of the Truth or a corrupted way of applying the Truth. We sometimes see this verse misquoted with the use of the word “set” in place of the word “make”. This is a fundamental and important error. If you are set free from jail you leave with all the marks that brought you to the jail, and with a record. On the other hand, when one is made free, it is an absolute pardon with the record expunged of past deeds that landed one in jail or prison. Lord willing, I will pick up right here on Monday with this wonderful and powerful study of the Word of God.
