BECAUSE OF THE WOMAN’S TESTIMONY

Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful Bible Study from the Book of John. Oh, how good our Father and His Son our Savior are to us all. The featured photo today was taken a few years ago at factory square in Readfield Maine. I might point out something my older readers will readily understand, a few years to me may be far different than if you are twenty reading this. Anyway, lets get our attention back on track and read our primary text from this wonderful Book of John.
John 4:33-38 (KJV)
33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
The disciples are talking about someone else bringing food to Jesus because He said He had some meat they didn’t know about. As you have seen in our text above Jesus answers with a little more clarity. The following translation perhaps opens this up further.
John 4:34 (TLB)
34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God who sent me, and from finishing his work.
I think we are all aware of the immense satisfaction even pleasure of doing something for someone we love and especially our Lord, Savior, and Father. Following this one liner Jesus then launches immediately into a discussion about harvesting, sowers, and reapers. The plain message from the Master is that they and we are not to say that the harvest is for another time, Jesus says it is for now. He is saying that the sowers have prepared the harvest and it is always time, now, for the reapers to gather the crop, in this case souls for the Kingdom of God. There is a terrible lie in the Church and that is the idea that only the one who leads a person in the sinners’ prayer is the only one to get a reward in Heaven. That is untrue and if you had any question, Jesus just answered it in the text above.
The fields have been white with the harvest for two thousand years yet we continue to see people praying for a harvest at some future date, commonly associated with a revival they are asking God to send. Both of those ideas are fundamentally wrong, flawed and Jesus addressed the one about future harvest in our text. Jesus made it clear that He, the Father, have always had sowers, that is why the fields are white and ready for harvest. He makes it clear that what He needs are reapers to gather in the harvest, those who will harvest now and not put it off for someone else or a future time. Some are waiting for God to accomplish the harvest. God is not going to accomplish the harvest, He will work through willing and obedient people to gather the harvest. God can do nothing in the earth independent of a willing and obedient person. Now, we move into new text.
John 4:39-42 (KJV)
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
41 And many more believed because of his own word;
42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
In verse thirty-nine we find that many of the Samaritans believed on Him because of the testimony of the woman. They believed because of what He did in telling her the past without any foreknowledge of her past, which is the Word of knowledge. This is no different than the people who believed when they saw other manifestations of God’s Power. However, the Samaritan men had heard enough to invite Jesus to stay and Jesus stays another two days. We, the Church, also have two days (2000 years) to preach this gospel. During those two days, Jesus preached the Kingdom of God which included Isaiah sixty-one just as He preached in Nazareth following His temptation in the wilderness. Now, our text tells us that “many more believed”. Faith comes by hearing and our ability to hear is enhanced by the Word of God. These people heard the Word of God and they developed faith in the Word and the Word manifest before them. This is a believing that brings eternal life whereas the report of another person may bring curiosity and sets us up to believe the Word. When Jesus left many were agreeing with the woman that Jesus was indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world. And, that is exactly who He is today!
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
