I HAVE MEAT TO EAT
Monday – November 5, 2018, Cheshvan 27, 5779

Greetings to all and welcome back to the Monday edition of The Three Minute Word. The featured picture is a wonderful fall picture taken in Maine. God is so good to give us the Word to guide our lives into the abundant life He paid for at Calvary and beyond. I am currently teaching from the Bible Book of John. Let us read our primary Bible text aloud and jump right back into our study.
John 4:27-34 (KJV)
27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
You may recall that Jesus’ disciples have been into town to get lunch and they return right at the tail end of His conversation with a Samaritan woman. The woman left her water pot and has gone into town to tell the men. I find it interesting that she only tells the men, however remember this woman is used to dealing with the men of the town, five have been husbands and she is shacked up with another man currently. As we read down through our text we find her telling the men that this man knew all of her history so this must be the Christ we are waiting for to come. So, these men come out of the city with the Samaritan woman to see this man who she has told them must be the Messiah, the Christ. In the meantime, the disciples have returned with food and implore Jesus to eat. Jesus responds with “I have meat to eat that ye know not of.” Naturally they jump to the conclusion that someone else must have brought Him something while they were gone. However, Jesus is not talking about natural food but spiritual. As we think and meditate about this word “meat” let’s consider the use of two other words to facilitate our understanding and those are ‘mission’ and ‘satisfaction’. At this point the disciples of Jesus had no understanding of His true mission and that ignorance persisted until after the Cross although He tells them many times.
Now let’s take a look at what the Master says in verse thirty-four to explain what He is talking about.
John 4:34 (KJV)
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
Jesus was about the Father’s business and He plainly states He is doing the will of the Father and He will finish the work of the Father. He is on assignment in the earth just as we are and He is determined to finish the work assigned Him by the Father. His main mission in the earth is to take away the sin of the world defeating the works of the devil.
1 John 3:8 (KJV)
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
The paramount purpose for the Word to be made flesh and walk the earth as a man was to “destroy the works of the devil.” Now let’s circle back and take another look at this word “meat” from two other texts.
John 6:27 (KJV)
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
John 6:54-56 (KJV)
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
The flesh of Jesus is his natural body, also known as the Bread of life, and the Word of God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Additionally, Jesus is talking about the future and necessary destruction of His body and the death of His spirit man which was necessary for the redemption of man. It was also necessary for His own return to the Throne of Glory. Recall that Adam died first spiritually and then physically and so it was with Christ on the Cross. This sacrifice of the sinless Lamb of God being made sin so that we could be made righteous provides our path of redemption. He physically and spiritually died on Calvary but His soul was full of the Word of God and that echoed through Hell and called Grace, Mercy, and Justice to bring this innocent man to safety. Because He received an uncorruptible body so will we, because He was born again (spirit man) so are we in Him. All that was contained in the salvation of Christ is in our salvation as well with the exception of be made God (capitol G).
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
