PSALM 91 – PART ELEVEN – Awake, Arise and Triumph Ministries

Greetings precious saints of God and welcome back to this ongoing study of the 91^st Psalm. This particular Psalm has been widely recognized as a Word for protection. Protection from all that we need protection from. The protection is not automatic. Like all other benefits in the Kingdom of God there are qualifiers. All of the benefits of the Kingdom are ours at Salvation. This is really no different than a job you may have worked. Getting hired requires certain things and being eligible and receiving certain benefits once hired require certain things. First let’s review a little of our study text then the seven elements essential to being in the secret place of the Most High.

Psalm 91:1-2 (KJV)

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Again, let’s review the qualifiers for “dwelling in the secret place”.

Faith is necessary (Romans 10:17)
Meditation of the Word the promise is needed (Joshua 1:8)
We must focus on the promise (2 Corinthians 4:18)
We must call it done before we see it (Romans 4:17-22)
We must have knowledge (2 Peter 1:2-4)
God has given us all things including His protection to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17)
We must be free of sin (Ezekial 7:8,22)

Hopefully we all recognize that a change of thinking, a change to think like God, is at the core of coming to dwell in the secret place. What the Apostle Paul in Romans 12:2 calls a renewing of the mind. This involves getting the junk of darkness out and light in. Now, let’s jump into our primary Bible text for today continuing to explore the goodness of God.

Psalm 91:13-16 (KJV)

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Yesterday we studied the thirteenth verse of our primary text and built our faith in the absolute protection we have from evil spirits in the secret place. Let’s not be so foolish as to think that being saved and reading this Psalm confirms that protection. We must be in the secret place (review the criteria above), we know about the protection, and we must have absolute confidence in our authority over evil spirits in Christ Jesus, in the secret place. If you’re thinking “I don’t know about all that, the devil seems to be getting in some pretty good licks on me” then know that you are not in the secret place and or don’t understand and have confidence in your authority over the wiles of the demons. If that is our thinking, we have a couple of choices. One choice and the best choice is to build our faith in the Truth and exercise our authority over the demons. The other is to just keep getting deceived and beat up.

Verses fourteen through sixteen are very personal to me in a wonderful way. On January 30, 1997, at the age of 49, I experienced a massive heart attack, and was in cardiogenic shock (blood pressure 60/40). As I lay on that table in the heart Cath lab, I remember telling the Lord that if this was my time then so be it, but I believe my family still needs me. A few weeks before this I had actually started studying this very Psalm, the 91^st Psalm. My cardiologist, whose hands were guided by the Lord, opened the blocked vessel and I was taken to the Intensive Care Unit. I fell into a deep sleep full of medications and exhaustion. When I awakened the next morning, the Lord was speaking verses 14 – 16 to me. Not in an audible voice but to my spirit, I had no question who it was. The Lord is so good. Upon routine periodic monitoring my heart remains normal to this day. I am sure you can imagine how sweet these Word of my Savior and my Deliverer are to me.

TAKE HOME:

Are you mindful of the qualifiers to enter the secret place?
Are you careful to maintain your standing in the secret place? Getting into and staying in the secret place is not automatic, it takes diligence and maintenance.
Have you been careful to set your love upon the Lord?
