LIVING BREAD FROM HEAVEN
Thursday – January 24, 2019, Sh’vat 18, 5779
Greetings and welcome back to this wonderful and powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. The featured picture today is of the ruins of the Church at Laodicea. The Church today is spiritually in ruins, when will we awake, arise, and walk in the triumph paid for at Calvary? We have authority in the earth and the empowerment of God to dominate in every sphere of natural and spiritual life in the earth. We apparently don’t believe it. Let’s dive into our primary Bible text and see if we can’t start to develop (on purpose) the necessary faith to exercise the dominion we have in the earth. When we exercise dominion, authority, the Blessing (Holy Spirit) will back it up so long as it is of faith, in love, and led of Holy Spirit (our Father). Just like Jesus little ones!
John 6:46-52 (KJV)
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
As we pick up in verse fifty above let us remind ourselves of the significance of the number fifty. Fifty is the number of Holy Spirit, the number of Jubilee. Holy Spirit is the One who quickens us to life (saved by Grace) at salvation. Grace is just another facet of Holy Spirit. Other facets include the Anointing, Blessing, Glory, Wisdom, Revelation, and Mighty Power. Remember, the Jubilee celebrated in ancient Israel occurred every fifty years. Let’s take a look at the Jubilee and how it connects to us.
Leviticus 25:10 (KJV)
10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
Does any of this sound familiar? Have we been given liberty, freed from the captivity of Satan? Have we been returned to our possession, the Kingdom of God? The light has returned to us, not only do we have authority but the Blessing has been returned to us. Have we been loosed from the kingdom of darkness to choose the Kingdom of God, our real family? We the children of God are in Jubilee, thank you Jesus! Jesus brought us full circle and better, He is our safety net that did not exist for Adam. And, what accomplished all of this? The Bread that came down from Heaven bringing eternal life! Jesus goes on in the next verse to speak very plainly telling them that He is indeed “the living bread which came down from Heaven”. They all know that without natural bread (food) one cannot live however they are a little dull on the spiritual truth that without spiritual bread (food) one cannot live spiritually. When we eat natural food, it is digested and distributed throughout the body to supply essential nutrition. When we intake spiritual food, the Word of God, it is received into our mind and nourishes our spirit. The Word of God is essential nutrition for the spirit man. The Word of God when received, given the highest value, the highest place, and we eliminate inferior thoughts not only is our spirit man made stronger but our physical man is made stronger (healthier) as well.
Jesus goes on to tell them (the Jews and us) that the bread He is giving is His flesh for the life of the world. He sowed a natural body to reap a spiritual harvest. As one might imagine this grossed them out because they are thinking and talking natural and He (Jesus) is talking spiritual life which is what they lack the most. With spiritual life the physical will be taken care of. Everything in the natural or physical world had its origins in the spiritual and the condition of everything in the physical has its origin in the spiritual realm. As we will see, from the viewpoint of the Jews, Jesus goes from bad to worse telling them not only must they eat his flesh but drink His blood. As we will see Jesus finally tells them that physically eating His flesh and drinking His blood would be of no benefit however my Words are spirit and life. He is going to take their sin in His body and He is going to seal the Blood Covenant initiated with Abram which washes away their and our sins. Jesus’ Word were and are spirit and life and so are ours with equal impact when spoken by faith, in love, led of Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit that quickens the spirit man to life and it is the Spirit that will one day give us an uncorrupted glorious body. Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow.
