THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE
Thursday – March 28, 2019, Adar B 21, 5779

Greetings dear children of God, precious in His sight and in my sight. Welcome back to this powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. If you are on Facebook please take a moment and hit the “like” and “share” buttons to expand the reach of this ministry. The featured picture is of a family sharing the Word of God together and this should be done from before birth. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible Text for today by reading it aloud.
John 8:30-33 (KJV)
30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
As Jesus spoke faith came (Romans 10:17) and many of the Jews listening choose to believe and as a result Jesus choose to go forward teaching them. Remember, Jesus didn’t continue teaching because there was an audience, He continued teaching for it was the Father’s will, He was led of Holy Spirit. The word “continue” in verse thirty-one of our text is the same as abide or dwell. When you abide or dwell somewhere you become intimately acquainted with the place, every nock and cranny. In this way Jesus said that we would be disciples. What about those who believed but then did not continue in the Word of God? A disciple is one who is becoming like and becomes as the Master. Unfortunately the predominant teaching today is that we can never be like Jesus in His earthly ministry. As we go into verse thirty-two, they and we are told that the Word will cause us to know the Truth and we will be made (not set) free. I have taught extensively on the Truth from time to time but in a nutshell, it is the Word, it is Jesus, it is the Holy Spirit, and it is love. Think of the Truth simply as doing the Word, imitating Jesus, being led of the Holy Spirit, and walking in love, being love just as our Lord is Love. There is a very fundamental difference between being set free and being made free. Being set free means you are free but with the scars of the past whereas to be made free is as if you were never not free. So, what is a disciple to do?
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Many of us know the accounts in the gospels of the things which Jesus did and He commands us to do not just give it the old college try. As we saw in the preceding verse, we are to do all of it and even greater things. The fundamental sermon Jesus taught and preached from the first day of His ministry to the last and continues with us is from Isaiah. The question may have come up in your mind of what does the Word make me free from? One might exclaim “sin” but also the consequence of sin and the subsequent toll of the curse in all of it awful forms.
Isaiah 61:1-4 (KJV)
1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.
We like Jesus are to bring good news to those who will receive it, for we have good news indeed. Sin is defeated and with it the curse, poverty of all kinds, we don’t need to be poor financially or ill in our bodies for Jesus has defeated the works of the devil.
1 John 3:8 (KJV)
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Like our Lord we are to bind up the brokenhearted, bring liberty to the captives (of devils), open the prison doors to the bound (various addictions etc.), proclaim the day of salvation and bring justice into their lives. There was a time of weeping and mourning in the dark but now the morning is come and mourning is defeated in the light of His goodness. As we look at Isaiah 61:4 we get a look at the greater things that Jesus alluded to in John 14:12. We have not seen this dear one, but we will before we are out of here, however, much work remains before that day.
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
