FREE INDEED
Tuesday – April 2, 2019, Adar B 26, 5779
Greetings precious partners and friends of this Ministry and The Three Minute Word publication and welcome back to this very powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. The featured picture is of the second school house I attended for the second and third grades. I don’t recall how it was heated but it also had an outhouse in the back the difference being there was one for the boys and one for the girls in this building. Back in that day if we were good all week the teacher allowed the boys to bring their cap guns to school on Friday to use at recess. This building is now the Readfield Historical Society building. If you are reading this on Facebook please take a moment and hit the “like” and “share” buttons. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and read it aloud.
John 8:32-36 (KJV)
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Jesus has been talking to the Jews and to us about how the Truth makes one free. Now, understand the Truth has to be received, believed, and acted upon for it to make one free. Recall that the Truth is the Word of God, Jesus, Holy Spirit (who speaks of Jesus, the Word), and love (who is God and acts selflessly towards us). Consider the process of salvation.
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
We believed and confessed the Truth when we heard it, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
Romans 10:14 (KJV)
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
At salvation we are free indeed! Free from what? Free from slavery to sin and our father the devil. Once again, we are free to make choices, be they good or bad. Jesus is telling them that He is going to take them from being servants to being sons. A servant or slave is never free but sons are free, they are family. Let’s take a look at our text again from another Bible translation.
John 8:35-36 (PassionNTPsa)
35 And slaves have no permanent standing in a family, like a son does, for a son is a part of the family forever.
36 So if the Son sets you free from sin, then become a true son and be unquestionably free!
Thank you, Father, thank you Jesus, in Christ Jesus we are sons, family forever! Jesus’ whole purpose for coming was to redeem those who were created sons (Adam and Eve) but became slaves, servants of sin, servants of the devil, and make them sons (you and me) again.
Galatians 4:5-7 (KJV)
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Of interest, in Jewish law and culture, an adopted son has the same standing and rights of the first-born son! We have been given the same standing as Christ Jesus! Wow, just let that sink in for a while. Our God was very serious about a family and we who are in Christ Jesus are family. One last Scripture to further illuminate all of this. This is so wonderful brother and sister and the Jews that day and unfortunately to this day did not have a clue that salvation stood right before them.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
The term “new creature” means that we who are in Christ Jesus are a new creation, there has never been one like us, no not Adam, and there will never be any like us to follow. The old things that passed away was our slavery to sin, our language, our father being the devil, and our destination of Hell. We have a new and wonderful Father with nothing but good plans and good thoughts for us! Heaven is our home, our spirit is alive forevermore, our thoughts, words, and actions are changing as we chose to be more like Him. We are free indeed!!!

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
