YE KNOW NOTHING AT ALL

Greetings to our wonderful and precious friends and partners of this Ministry and followers of this blog. None of you are taken for granted and are prayed for each day. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and delve as deep as the Holy Spirit will take us today.
John 11:47-53 (KJV)
47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
We are now moving past the raising of Lazarus from the dead and into the aftermath. One might think that everyone would just be overjoyed that Lazarus was raised from the dead not to mention the myriad of other miracles done by the command, the laying on of Jesus’ hands, and the touching Jesus’ garment. Instead, we find the ruling religious Jews gathered and conspiring to put Jesus to death. They do not contest that He has been doing miracles, however, they did see Him and the miracles as a direct threat to their positions. Their position, their love of money exceeded their love or God, their love of the people was absent, and they were envious of Jesus. This envy and all the rest would fuel their hatred and would culminate with Jesus on the Cross according to Scripture. Jesus on the Cross was at the hands of Jew and Gentile alike, He died for both, all of us.
As we move forward in our text, we find that the ruling Jews are afraid that not only will they lose their position but the people will no longer look to them but to Jesus. Of course, this is the whole idea, the whole thing with the Messiah, He is the way, the truth and the life unlike the priests of old or today.
John 14:6 (KJV)
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
As we listen in, we hear one of the Chief Priests by the name of Caiaphas speaking up. Later when the hour is come for Jesus to go to the Cross and Jesus surrenders Himself to the Cross, we find Caiaphas knee deep in the process.
John 18:12-14 (KJV)
12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
Now, let’s pick up with verse forty-nine and Caiaphas telling the rest of the counsel that they “know nothing at all”. He saw Jesus as a threat to the very existence of the Jewish nation say nothing of their positions and influence. His view was that it would be a noble thing for Jesus to die to save the nation. As we look forward in our text, we find that this very flawed and broken vessel speaking the will of God saying that not only will the death of Jesus save their nation but also the children of God scattered abroad and the two would be one. We further see that from that day forward they were united in one purpose (as was God) which was to put Jesus to death.
As I close for today let’s review the people groups down through time. In the beginning with Adam and Eve there was one people group (children of God). With sin two groups came to be and that would be those who believed and called upon God and those who did not. In the process of time in order to bring the Messiah the Jewish people arise from Abraham and so there is the Jew and the Gentile. If a Gentile worshipped God they became a Jew. With the advent of Jesus, the Cross, and the Resurrection three people groups formed in the earth and these are the Gentiles (heathen), the Jews, and the Church (those saved by the Blood of Jesus).

32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
