Greetings dear brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome to this ongoing study of “Father Abraham”. We will be reviewing Abraham’s life for it is encouraging for us all to see how God can and does flow in and through imperfect people to accomplish His will. Abrahams life was pivotal to the redemption account and the restitution of all things. I started this series of teachings showing the glorious end result then we went to the beginning to see the sausage be made. Now, let’s continue examining Abraham’s journey. The promised child has come and now we are exploring a brutal testing of the Blood Covenant forged between the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and Abraham.
You will recall that God, the Father, has commanded Abraham to go to Mount Moriah and sacrifice his son Isaac there on that mountain. This is the very mountain in Jerusalem where some two thousand years in the future Jesus will be sacrificed and rise again on the third day. The day of the command is representative of the death on the Cross and when they arrived on the third day and Abraham saw the place afar off was the Resurrection of Jesus, the Christ. Because of the Blood Covenant He and those to follow including the Christ could have full confidence that the Father would honor the Law of Reciprocity. What the Father would do for His Son he would do for Abraham’s son, Isaac. We see Abraham’s confidence in the Covenant in verse five of the following text.
Genesis 22:4-8 (KJV)
4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.
5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
Have you and I built our relationship with God to the point that we walk in the confidence evidenced by Abraham that day. Abraham told the young me with them “I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you”. Two are going up this mountain and two are coming back down this mountain. Next, we find that Isaac hasn’t come on this journey in full disclosure. We can already see the full trust Isaac has for his father and this is also manifest in the trust that Jesus has for His Father going to the Cross.
Matthew 26:39 (KJV)
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
Just as Jesus understood that He must go to the Cross for the deliverance of all of mankind do did Abraham know that His obedience was pivotal for all of mankind. Also know, it was not just the obedience of the two fathers (Abraham and The Father) but of the sons as well (Isaac and Jesus). Isaac asks his father, Abraham, where is the lamb for the sacrifice. Abraham replies with confidence that “God will provide himself a lamb”. Abraham doesn’t know that he won’t actually have to kill Isaac and that God has a male lamb all prepared. He has to be willing beyond a doubt to do as God commanded. Abraham does know however that Isaac will be returning home with him and the promised seed will come through Isaac.
TAKE HOME:
- Do you, do I, have the faith of Abraham?
- Do we have full confidence that we are free of the bondages of Satan, the curse or do we still tolerate them as just part of life?
- In Christ we have been given all things, Heaven upon the earth, obtained by faith, like that of Abraham.
Romans 8:32 (KJV)
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
As the Lord wills, I will return tomorrow with fresh revelation. The Lord bless and keep you and yours. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
