PALM SUNDAY
Monday – August 19, 2019, Av 18, 5779

Greetings my dear friends and partners of Eastern Gate Ministries International. I do appreciate each and every one of you who follow this blog (The Three Minute Word) seeing, reading, and diligently studying it either on Facebook, your email inbox, Twitter, or LinkedIn. If you are reading this on Facebook please take just a moment and hit the “love” and “share” buttons to give us feedback as well as spread the reach of the good news of the Kingdom of God. Now let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text in the Book of John, reading it aloud.
John 12:12-16 (KJV)
12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
Today I will pick up our study more or less where we left off last Friday with the Triumphant Entry of the Christ into Jerusalem. This event is also commonly known as Palm Sunday. This event marks the first of the five days the Lamb is inspected to be sure it is unblemished and culminates with Jesus on the Cross Thursday, the fifth day. This event, Palm Sunday, is recorded in all four of the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) with the Book of John being the least descriptive. The Bible Numerology of this section of Scripture is quite fascinating. John is the fourth Book of the New Testament. The number four represents light (spiritual, quantum, and physical). Jesus of course is the ultimate light but we also are light, the light of the world now that He has ascended into Heaven and we shine in the darkness. The number twelve for the chapter and the verse represents God’s perfect government. The twelve is repeated so we are talking about the perfect government of God under or with Christ Jesus. Thirteen represents depravity and rebellion. These things were certainly present then and remain today showing the desperate need of a Savior. The number fourteen represents deliverance or salvation which came only by Christ Jesus. Fifteen represents the rest or provision of God and Jesus was certainly that. Finally, sixteen represents love, God is love, we are love if we choose to develop our spiritual love DNA which we got directly from God. The love of God, the Blood Covenant, brought Jesus to the Cross and brought us into His salvation.
We see from our text that the people who greeted Jesus as He came to Jerusalem that day were waving palm branches and laying them in His path. Now, let’s take a look at some of the significance of the use of palm branches that day. The palm is symbolic of righteousness. Ps. 92:12 likens the righteous person to a palm tree in that nothing can sway a palm tree from perfect uprightness and neither does it change from season to season according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. The branches of this tree were also used as emblems of victory, both by believers and idolaters. The reason given for their being considered emblems of victory is the nature of the tree by which it so remarkably resists persistently heavy pressure according to The Complete Word Study Dictionary – New Testament. Jesus certainly embodied all of that and so is our goal to do the same. Jesus was righteous and He took our sin and gave us His righteousness. Righteousness is right standing with God, with the Father, with the Father seeing us as He sees Christ Jesus, just as if we never sinned.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Jesus certainly is a symbol, the reality, of victory over sin, victory over death and Hell. We have exactly the same victory in Christ Jesus from the moment of salvation and forever.
Colossians 2:13-15 (KJV)
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Revelation 1:17-18 (KJV)
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here tomorrow and we will look at the word “Hosanna” and more. Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
