EVEN MORE ABOUT LIGHT
Wednesday – September 11, 2019, Elul 11, 5779
Greeting partners and friends of this Ministry and welcome back to this engaging Bible Study of the Book of John. The featured pictures this week are of Donna’s raised garden. She has had a ball with it, we both have enjoyed it say nothing of the fresh vegetable. The featured picture today was taken the 9th of August. We are looking to have two of these next year. Now let’s delve as deep as the Holy Spirit will take us today into our study. First let’s read our primary text aloud.
John 12:34-36 (KJV)
34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
Dear ones, we have such a wonderful Lord, a merciful, and loving God who shares all things with His children (you and me). He does not in anyway force it upon us or just spoon feed us but with some study, some diligence, all things are made known to us and all things become possible for us in Him. As we turn our attention to the thirty-fifth verse, we find Jesus talking about the light and as you know, that light is Him (Anointed Word). He has been talking about it being time for Him to go to the Cross and pay the penalty of sin for all of mankind for all time. Again, in a different way He is telling them that He is the light and in just a short while He will not be with them.
There is however a greater or wider picture being presented. For these folks, Jesus, the Light, would only be with them in His earthly ministry a few more days, however for us today it is not a lot different. Yes, it may be years but the reality is that when we first encounter the Light it is bright but as we reject light (saint or sinner) the more darkness we have, the dimmer the light becomes. We can get to the point that we are receiving darkness as light and do not even know it and fail to recognize it as such. This is happening wholesale in the Church today due to traditions, and demonic lies (doctrine of demons). Jesus makes it clear that we are to grab ahold of light and walk in it and it alone. He warns that if we don’t darkness will come upon us. There are only two choices and that is Light and darkness, there is no other choice. We are either doing things the God way or the devils’ way. A mixture of light and darkness always brings defeat and the curse into our lives. Just think about how well it worked out for Adam and Eve when they mixed the knowledge of good (light) and evil (darkness). Once we are in the darkness we are just stumbling about like the world. In the light we can see clearly and not stumble about. Why are we such a rebellious people and chose to go our own way and not the way of the light? There is nothing bad in the light only overflowing abundance of good things. We must however shun all forms of darkness and discharge our responsibilities in the light. Jesus speaks of this in a different way in another place.
Matthew 6:21-24 (KJV)
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
It seems to me that each of us might want to take a little time and locate our heart. Where is our heart. What are our predominant thoughts? What are we talking about? What are we doing? How much regard are we paying to God, the Word of God, to the leadership of the Holy Spirit? Our eye must be single, meaning that we are looking for and doing the Word of God and it alone. Look this does not preclude a truckload of fun, it will be easy and light when we stay in the light. We must, each of us, search the Scriptures daily and prove the Word of God and do the proven Word of God. Walk in the light as He is in the light. If what we are receiving as light is really darkness (not the Word of God) our darkness will increase and before long we are completely deceived. Perhaps saved and going to Heaven but deceived and in retreat from the enemy and in full defeat in finances, health, and other areas of life. I for one want to walk totally in the light, shunning the darkness and walk where nothing is impossible to me.

24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
