DO NOT ABIDE IN DARKNESS
Thursday – September 19, 2019, Elul 19, 5779

Greetings precious brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus and welcome back to this powerful Bible Study of the Book of John. Our God is so good to give us His Word to light our path. Let me point out that the Word of God only lights our path when it is received as absolute Truth, by faith, in love, and led of the Holy Spirit. One of the things I strongly encourage each of us to do as we read Scripture or these teachings is to translate various words to the root meaning. For example, ‘love’ above is agape (Greek) love which means obedience to the Word of God, adherence to Blood Covenant, and a selfless lifestyle. I hope you have noticed that there is not one drop of emotion in Godly love, agape love. The Word we receive or have as a simple academic exercise has no power or light in our lives, it is simply information like any other information. Unwavering faith must be applied. The pictures featured this week were taken in the fall here in Maine a few years ago, I hope you find them enjoyable. If you are reading this on Facebook please take a moment to hit the “love” and “share” buttons to play a role in expanding the reach of these teachings. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text and dive into the Word for us today.
John 12:46-50 (KJV)
46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
Today let’s pick up with verse forty-six with Jesus again talking about light, and the phrase that He is “come a light into the world”. The word ‘light’ is a general light meaning to shine or make manifest. Spiritual darkness is far worse than physical darkness for one does not recognize that they are in spiritual darkness. Spiritual darkness is any word, any idea, any high thing (word), that is contrary to the Word of God, or that exalts itself above the Word of God even in the slightest. The light was necessary, to show a difference, to show the path to full redemption, salvation. These people sat in great darkness as Scripture points out until Jesus, a people without hope.
Isaiah 9:2 (KJV)
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
The light that came, the light they saw, the light that shined upon all peoples was Christ Jesus, the One who has now taken the keys of Hell and death from the devil. Before the Cross and the Resurrection since the Day of Sin and Death all people sat in great darkness but now light has come and with-it freedom. God is so good dear friends. When we believe the light, the Anointed Word, we are instantly taken from living (abiding) in darkness into His marvelous light (abiding in light).
As we move to the next verse (47) let’s examine the first phrase or part of the verse with Him saying; “if any man hear my words”. The tense here is aorist active meaning if at any time a person hears my words. It is however an active not passive endeavor; one has to decide to hear. Jesus is speaking of the ‘rhema’ word to which we must apply our faith and the Anointing for it to be active or to cause change. In that form, uttered by a living voice it becomes ‘logos’ and can change or cause anything to come to pass. Jesus goes on to say that if a person does make the decision to hear and then rejects the words, He is not going to judge the person (not at this time, there is a day of judgment). Jesus did not come into the world to judge it but to save the world, the peoples of the world, those in darkness which was all people when He came. Once Jesus came there no longer was an atonement (covering of sin) available but full removal of sin by His Blood and our testimony. The bottom line is that people, each of us in the end judge ourselves.
John 3:17-19 (KJV)
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
If one believes on Jesus, they are not condemned but are redeemed however if they believe not, they are condemned already. Until light came, they were not condemned but when light came, they had to choose between light and dark. What am I choosing day in and day out, what are you choosing?
Matthew 6:21-23 (KJV)
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Dear saints do not countenance (allow) darkness in the least!
Until our next publication, as a Bible Teacher and Prophetic Voice I speak this blessing over each and every one of you, receive it by faith in Jesus name!
Numbers 6:24-26 (AMP)
24 The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious (kind, merciful, and giving favor) to you;
26 The Lord lift up His [approving] countenance upon you and give you peace (tranquility of heart and life continually).
