EVERYTHING HAS A REASON

I recently published a series of teaching titled “The Curse Causeless” and I believe I am prompted of the Lord to revisit that topic here at the end of the year. We commonly hear the phrase “everything happens for a reason” and I suspect everyone agrees with that statement. Here is where the issue lies. What is the reason? Others believe it is a part of God’s sovereign plan, but He will work it all out for our good. Really? Way too many others who should know better shrug their shoulders and say, “we just don’t know but we will find out someday”. Unfortunately, the troubles in Christians lives (not threatening but in) and the way we die looks no different than how sinners die.
Proverbs 26:2 (NKJV)
2 Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight.
Ecclesiastes 10:8 (NKJV)
8 He who digs a pit will fall into it, And whoever breaks through a wall will be bitten by a serpent.
We see in Proverbs 26:2 verse that there is always a cause for the presence of the curse in anyone’s life. That cause is that there is a breach in the hedge, the wall of protection around about us (Ecclesiastes 10:8). The only one who can breach this hedge is ourselves by sin or ignorance. Sometimes we hear the following verse in part or in total to explain the curse in one’s life.
Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
There are two qualifiers in this verse. One is the person must “love God”. This is agape, Divine, love which means one is obedient to Scripture (all of it), has a selfless lifestyle, and is observing Blood Covenant. Unfortunately, too many Christians have an affection for God but are not obeying Scripture. The second qualifier is that we walk in His plan for our lives not our plan. In the plan of God, walking in love we have absolute safety.
Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV)
17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD.
What is the qualifier for this safety?
Isaiah 54:14 (NKJV)
14 In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you.
This safety is established in righteousness which is not only right standing with the Father but right doing. Right doing is walking in love (Divine not worldly) by faith. Consider the following verse of absolute safety.
Luke 10:19 (NKJV)
19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
What do you suppose “and nothing shall by any means hurt you” means? Just what it says! So why do fellow Christians have the curse manifest (stealing, killing, destroying) in their lives and some die violent tragic deaths. It is not to give birth to a movement. That was Jesus job (cross), and He is the one and only son called and qualified to that purpose. That is not to say that God can’t make lemonade out of lemons. It’s not because God is testing and grooming them for bigger things. There are two major causes that give the curse access to our lives. In the following verses Jesus answers the question of why bad things happen to good people. First, we see sin is the explanation.
Luke 13:1-5 (NKJV)
1 There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”
Next we see that ignorance and/or failure to enforce the Covenant allows the curse entrance.
John 9:1-3 (NKJV)
1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.
2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.
Jesus did not dispute the sin curse connection but said in this particular case it was a failure to claim their Covenant of Health. In this fallen world there are all kinds of things that may present but we don’t need to accept them or put up with them. We have a Covenant with Almighty God.
TAKE HOME:
- The curse (stealing, killing, and destroying) can only enter a Christians domain with permission, open door.
- Fully submitted to God we have absolute safety, period! Don’t tear the hedge, the Scriptural wall of protection, down.
- Two major causes for the presence of the curse in a Christians life is sin and/or ignorance.
Lord willing, I will resume right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
